Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by Kris Johnson of Bizarre Comics Entertainment. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

Here we go.

stl016084 JOSIE & THE PUSSYCATS #1 $3.99 (Archie) – Archie Comics rolls on with their line-wide relaunch! The latest book to get a fresh coat of paint is the classic showcase for the hottest band in Riverdale: Josie and the Pussycats! At this point, I don’t think anyone is second-guessing grabbing these new Archie Comics so lets just all synchronize our minds on Wednesday and enjoy the feel-good vibes together, maaaaaaaaaan. (Kris Johnson)

DEADLY CLASS #22 $3.99 (Image) – Okay, so it’s been a few months since the bloody conclusion of the last story arc. Is everybody ready for more blood and mayhem? Deadly Class is back and with it comes the freshmen class. This is just like back in the day when Degrassi introduced new kids onto the show…..except with this story, those kids can actually die. With Degrassi, we only wished they would die. Anyways, Rick Remender and Wes Craig take us back to school for a lethal new semester. Can’t wait. (Andrew)

BATMAN BEYOND REBIRTH #1 $2.99 (DC Comics) – One of the biggest surprises of this whole Rebirth endeavour has been the quality of work Dan Jurgens has been pumping out. Long after his heyday in the 90s, it appears Mr. Jurgens is experiencing a rebirth of his own, penning the absolutely wonderful Action Comics relaunch and now, the brand new Batman Beyond! Joining him will be the always excellent Ryan Sook, who to be perfectly frank, would be enough of a draw on his own. As such, I predict this combination of creators and character will be quite killer. Join me in a quality read, will you? (Kris Johnson)

stl017714M.A.S.K.: REVOLUTION #1 $3.99 (IDW) – The Revolution will be televised! Sorry, what I meant to say was The Revolution will be published. Tying in with that whole “shared universe” event with the Hasbro properties thing, M.A.S.K. is bringing the thunder, baby! What secrets origin will be uncovered? Is there a power struggle from within taking shape? Will the team finally figure out that Kommand is actually spelt with a C instead of a K, thus making their acronym not as cool? Some of the answers lie within the pages of this issue…..some. (Andrew)

WONDER WOMAN THE TRUE AMAZON HC $22.99 (DC Comics) – Now, I personally haven’t read this yet, but the advanced word out there in the cyber-verse has been nothing short of phenomenal. It seems that the tremendous Jill Thompson has crafted the definitive Wonder Woman origin tale, weaving mythology and superhero storytelling together into a flawless tapestry of awesomeness. From all accounts, this one isn’t to be missed, so like, don’t miss it, dingus. (Kris Johnson)

UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL #12 $3.99 (Marvel) – Our boy, Ryan North takes the show on the road and heads….North. That’s right, a good Canadian boy knows that the best place to tell a Squirrel Girl story is in Canada, where we’re all a little nuts. A camping road trip that will most likely lead to a surprising showdown with some super baddie that we could not have possibly predicted. If that don’t get you’re money, I don’t know what will. (Andrew)

stl017266FROSTBITE #1 (OF 6) $3.99 (Vertigo) – In the future, a second Ice Age grips the Earth and any source of heat becomes a font of true power for anyone lucky enough to possess it. Into this bleak reality, a new threat emerges in the form of a disease called Frostbite. It’s deadly, instantaneous, and there is no cure. Well, there was no cure, that is until Dr Henry Bonham and his daughter Victoria discovered a solution. All they have to do is make it through a deadly wasteland, crossing from Mexico City to Alcatraz, all the while avoiding the myriad ways one can die in a frozen apocalypse. Piece of sub-zero, break-your-teeth-off cake. Of course, once they cure Frostbite, there’s still that whole permanent icy doom thing going on. Kinda gilding the shitty lily there. (Kris Johnson)

TEEN TITANS: REBIRTH #1 $2.99 (DC Comics) – Damian Wayne leading the Titans. That’s pretty crazy. What makes it even more crazy is that he, along with Raven, Starfire and the new Kid Flash, are going to take the fight to Ra’s al Ghul. Can little mister angry-pants keep a level head and actually command this super group to a successful defeat of his grand-pappy? It’s a tall order. We’ll see. (Andrew)

TARZAN ON THE PLANET OF THE APES #1 (OF 5) $3.99 (Dark Horse) – Do I really need to sell this one? It’s Tarzan, King of the Apes, on the ma’fuggin’ Planet of said Apes! As far as high-concept crossovers go, this one is pretty much in the stratosphere. In the reality established in this new mini, Tarzan and his ape-brother, Caesar, team up to prevent the extinction of both ape and man. Their bonds to family and species shall be tested in ways we can probably guess if we gave it some thought! Globetrotting adventure awaits… and a whole bunch of ape-fighting, I bet. (Kris Johnson)

stl016389CAPTAIN AMERICA: SAM WILSON #13 $3.99 (Marvel) – Okay, so Sam’s been having a rough time as of late. There’s a bunch of politicians that are bugging him to #GiveBackTheSheild to Steve Rogers. There’s a racist, fascist private security firm, The Americops, trying to take over Brooklyn. Tension is rising in the streets. You think that would be bad enough. But then you add everybody’s least favourite uber-conservative super soldier, U.S. Agent, sticking his nose in things and it’s shaping up to be one shitty night for the former Falcon. Here’s hoping Sammy can find a way out of this one. Good luck, buddy…..you’re gonna need it. (Andrew)
