Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by Kris Johnson of Bizarre Comics Entertainment. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

Here we go.

stl027129AVENGERS #2 $3.99 (Marvel) – Mark Waid and Mike Del Mundo continue their epic run with the second instalment in the KANG WAR saga. The Vision seeks to destroy Kang, but Kang has already struck a fatal blow in the past by ensuring the Avengers themselves never made it out of their cribs. What can possibly be done to stop an enemy that controls all of time and has effectively wiped Earth’s Mightiest Heroes from existence? No clue. Guess I need to read this comic, and so should you! (Kris Johnson)

MOTOR CRUSH #1 $3.99 (Image) – Hey hey, the gang’s all here! And by “gang”, I mean the creative team behind that awesome Batgirl reboot from last year: Babs Tarr, Cameron Stewart and Brendon Fletcher. They’ve joined forced once again and this time, it’s on a creator-owned title! SCORE! This new series follows a rider in a worldwide motorcycle racing league who’s looking for a leg up on the competition. She spends her nights trading fists with biker gangs to get her hands on some Crush, an engine boosting narcotic that’ll give her speed. She feels the need. The need for SPEED! Can’t wait for the pulse-pounding action in this one. (Andrew)

STAR WARS: DOCTOR APHRA #1 $4.99 (Marvel) – THE breakout star of DARTH VADER is back with her own solo series and she’s brought the other breakout stars along for the ride! That’s right, space Indiana Jones is free of Lord Vader’s clutches and is back to what she does best: Stealing ancient relics and looking all swash-buckley while she does it… With a little help from Triple 0 and BT-1, of course! Plus, as if you need any additional incentive, Kieron Gillen is scripting while the always excellent Kev Walker is sure to kill it dead on art. Buy this book. Even a Stormtrooper couldn’t miss it. (Kris Johnson)

stl026538JIM HENSON’S THE STORYTELLER: GIANTS #1 $3.99 (Boom) – It’s the kickoff of a new series focusing on myths and folktales from around the world that involve Giants! What could be better than that? How ’bout stories involving Giants told in the style of Jim Henson’s The Storyteller? Thought that might pique your interest. This first story is a retelling of the “The Peach’s Son”, a Japanese tale about a giant raised by people who never truly except him. What’s a guy gotta do to get some love? Oh, I know. Save a village from “evil beings”. That always works. (Andrew)

NOVA #1 $3.99 (Marvel) – Richard Rider is back! But how did he escape the Cancer-verse? And how’s he going to feel when he discovers his sacrifice saved not only Drax and Star-Lord from an eternity of suffering, but the mad titan Thanos as well? How does our new favourite Nova, Sam Alexander, fit into all of this?! So many questions! QUESTIONS, I SAY! (Kris Johnson)

MIGHTY ZODIAC #6 (OF 6) $3.99 (Oni) – It’s the final issue in J Torres and Corin Howell’s tale of mythical warriors fighting over fallen stars as the Mighty Zodiac must face off against The Rabbit Army in a final showdown. Who’s gonna win? My money’s on the Zodiac ’cause it’s their book and all. (Andrew)

stl020714CONAN OMNIBUS TP VOL 01 BIRTH OF LEGEND $24.99 (Dark Horse)Birth of the Legend, collecting 472 pages of Kurt Busiek and Cary Nord’s classic run on Dark Horse’s Conan series. This book, without question, contains everything a fan of the Cimmerian Barbarian could possibly ever need. Born on the Battlefield, The Frost Giant’s Daughter, it’s all packed in between the covers of this awesome new trade paperback. By Crom, buy it already! And if you don’t, to hell with you! (Kris Johnson)

A YEAR OF MARVELS: UNCANNY #1 $4.99 (Marvel) – In the first issue of this Marvel anthology series, we get some holidays out of the way. I know Christmas is coming but this book wraps any lingering wants for Halloween and Thanksgiving stories right here, right now. We got Kate Bishop, aka Hawkeye, who’s quiping and shooting arrows through bad guys in a haunted house. We also got Punisher playing a game of cat and mouse with his prey as he tries to figure what the hell to be thankful for……it’s hard, right? What with 2016 sucking balls and all. Check out these holiday themed stories that are definitely Uncanny. (Andrew)

CIRCLE #1 $3.99 (Action Lab) – A lonely kid dealing with the death of his mother, moves to a new town and becomes the favoured target of every jerk-ass bully in school. Luckily, he finds camaraderie among the freaks and gets sucked into performing a supernatural ritual with them, as one does. Unfortunately, the ritual summons an ancient darkness that can only be stopped by killing off his new buddies who, just so happens, are trying to kill him. So basically, this is the comic book version of The Craft if Robin Tunney wasn’t a big wuss and actually did what needed to be done by taking the rest of those nutty chicks out with her super witchy-witch powers. So yeah, check out a more hardcore version of a mid-90s horror flick on Wednesday. (Kris Johnson)

stl026121REGGIE AND ME #1 (OF 5) $3.99 (Archie) – Okay, so everybody else in Riverdale is getting the whole “series-revamp” treatment. Why not Reggie, right? So here it is: five issues dedicated to a boy and his dog. Reggie and Vader are the best of friends. They love to love life and to make others hate it. They’re always pulling pranks and throwing the best parties. It would be a shame if someone came along who was better at both these things. There might be a little competition. There might be “hell to pay” from Reggie’s perspective. Get ready to root for the bad guy! (Andrew)
