Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. It’s the last New Comics blog of 2017, so I decided to give Kris Johnson a much needed vacation. But don’t worry, he’ll be back next week. For now, here’s 10 comics I think you should check out.

HAWKMAN FOUND #1 $3.99 (DC Comics) – Even though Kris isn’t here, I thought we should still have a Dark Knights Metal one-shot in his honour. Thankfully, this one-shot has nothing to do with Batman. Hawkman is the man of the hour as no one knows where the hell he is right now. Nobody’s seen Carter Hall for years. It’s up to Jeff Lemire, Bryan Hitch and Kevin Nowlan to uncover the magical mystery that is Hawkman. I’m down for that. How ’bout you?

PHOENIX RESURRECTION: THE RETURN JEAN GREY #1 (OF 5) $4.99 (Marvel) – Nobody stays dead in comics. Gotta hand it to Marvel for being able to keep THIS Jean Grey deceased for as long as they did. The OG Jean makes her comeback in this brand new miniseries from Matthew Rosenberg and Leinil Francis Yu. Expect to hear a lot of talk about “rising from the ashes” and whatnot.

MOTOR CRUSH #9 $3.99 (Image) – Tension. Secrets. Racing. What more could you want from this high octane comic from Fletcher, Stewart, Tarr and artist Jake Wyatt? ‘Nuff said.

SCARLETT’S STRIKE FORCE #1 $3.99 (IDW) – The amalgam of the Hasbro-verse continues as Scarlett’s Joe team is back on Earth and taking on all comers. There’s a new Cobra Commander! The terrorist organization is once again a credible threat. There’s also a plethora of invading forces from all over the galaxy that want to make our planet their next conquest. Look’s like Red and her ragtag group of heroes have got their work cut out for them.

WWE #12 $3.99 (Boom!) – I love wrestling. I don’t hide it. But to tell you the truth, I was never a huge fan of The Shield. Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose teaming together was never my thing. However, I did enjoy that time the three of them faced off against each other for the title. Now I get to relive it in the latest issue of the WWE comic. Score!

JESSICA JONES #15 $3.99 (Marvel)The Return of the Purple Man story is heating up. In this issue, Killgrave and Jessica have a heart to heart. Actually, you can’t call it a heart to heart ’cause The Purple Man don’t got a heart. I guess it would be more of a parle. The hero and the villain talk it out. Any other time, this would be no big deal. This time, one of the people involved can use talking as a weapon. Let’s see how this meeting goes, shall we?

CHASING HITLER #2 (OF 4) $3.95 (Red 5) – Don’t you hate it when you find out that Hitler faked his death and is secretly rebuilding his army and nobody believes you? I sure do. So do two allied commandos who are hot on the Fuhrer’s tail. They gotta cut him off before he makes it to South America. Good luck, boys. You’re gonna need it.

BONEHEAD #1 $3.99 (Image) – In the future, the streets are ruled by gangs that wear neuro-linked helmets and have awesome parkour skills. As a gang war threatens the city, a lone “Bonehead” takes on all comers to clean up the streets. How is this not already a Broadway musical?

TRUE BELIEVERS: WHAT IF PHOENIX HAD NOT DIED? $1.00 (Marvel) – Hey, remember when I said that Jean Grey is coming back? It’s because she died….twice. After the first time she died, Marvel made a comic to show you what would’ve happened if she hadn’t died. It was in a series called What If? The comic starred Uatu the Watcher who showed us variations on scenarios that happened in previous comics. It was a super rad series. The issue where the Phoenix didn’t die is now available to read once again. I’d buy that for a dollar.

BATGIRL #18 $3.99 (DC Comics) – Here’s a crazy Christmas tale starring everybody’s favourite, Babara Gordon! It also stars everybody’s other favourite, Harley Quinn! In this festive issue, Harley infects Babs’ office party with a killer virus. The only way to get the cure is go on a scavenger hunt all over Burnside. Why the hell would Harley break up the party like that? I’ll admit I’ve done some kooky things to spice up a company party. I’ve never tried death by killer virus. It seems like that wouldn’t do much to liven things up.

So there you go. That’s this week’s New Comics. Check these books out and let us know what you think. We’ll be back again next week with more choice cuts of comic goodness!

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
