Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by Kris Johnson. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

PESTILENCE #6 $3.99 (Aftershock) – The conclusion! Fiat Lux have discovered that the Church itself, in its hubris, unleashed the zombie hoards on humanity. Now the motley crew of holy killers must find the “Word of God” if they wish to have any hope of stopping the deluge of the dead from overwhelming the Earth. Unfortunately for them, they’re already surrounded and things are looking grim. If ever there was a time for some Deus Ex Machina, this is it! So yeah, get to Machina-ing, God! What’re’ya? Busy running the universe or something? Pfft. (Kris Johnson)

HARLEY QUINN: BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR #1 $4.99 (DC Comics) – Ever heard the saying, “Be careful what you wish for ’cause you just might get it”? Really? You’ve never heard that saying? It’s quite a popular saying. I know, I know. Why would you be unhappy at getting what you wished for? I don’t get it either. It’s just a saying I’ve heard. That’s all. By the way, in this special one shot, Harley Quinn unleashes a genie and gets herself infinite wishes. So there WAS a point to all of this. (Andrew)

STAR WARS: DARTH VADER #10 $3.99 (Marvel) – In this issue, Darth Vader murders an old lady! Don’t miss it! (Kris Johnson)

THE ARCHIES #4 $3.99 (Archie)Hey Hey, we’re the Archies / People say we Archie around / But we’re too busy Archie-ing / To put anybody down! Hey, wait a second! That’s a bastardization of the theme song from The Monkees. I’d recognize that anywhere. But it’s okay ’cause The Monkees guest star in this issue. Everything is cool. The song was done as a parody/tribute so there’s no call for legal action……please. (Andrew)

SLOTS #4 $3.99 (Image) – What’s worse than being a boy named Sue? Being a boy named Lucy, that’s what. And it’s not like a cool Lucy that’s short for Lucifer or something bad ass like that. It’s straight up Lucy. Like that jerk ass that’s always fucking with Charlie Brown. Brutal. At this point, it should be quite clear that Stanley Dance, the star of Slots (and Lucy’s deadbeat father), was and is a Grade A shitheel. Lucy’s had to deal with that burden his whole damn life. But like the classic Johnny Cash song foretold, growing up with a girl’s name makes a man mean as hell and double tough. Luckily for Lucy, he had a woman in his life that was able to look past all of the rough edges. A girl named aptly named Mercy. Looking forward to some solid character work this issue, which is sure to be another strong installment in this down and dirty series. Check it out. (Kris Johnson)

WWE ROYAL RUMBLE 2018 SPECIAL #1 $7.99 (Boom) – The Road to Wrestlemania starts at the Royal Rumble. 29 men enter. Only 1 can win. This special tells the story of some of the greatest Royal Rumble wins, including Ric Flair’s epic win to become WWF Champion and Shawn Michael’s first victory in this battle royal. There’s even a story about AJ Styles’ debut in WWE co-written by AJ Styles himself. Can’t see that tale being at all biased. Anyways, if you want to be ready for arguably the greatest wrestling pay per view of the year (After New Japan’s Wrestlekingdom, that is), dontcha dare miss this comic! (Andrew)

THE DAMNED #7 $3.99 (ONI) – Eddie is dead… again. So, it’s fortuitous for him that his cursed brother Morgan has come back to town. For what purpose? At the moment, he’s just in time to keep Eddie’s corpse from getting double dead. Because, y’know, even though Eddie is already sleeping with the fishes, people are still trying to kill him. Why? Because every time that dude bites the big one, he always comes back. And there are great number of people trying to find a way to make this particular go-round with Lady Death real permanent like. Oh, and those people are getting real close to an answer for that particular riddle. Great timing, Morgan! (Kris Johnson)

MISTER MIRACLE #6 (OF 12) $3.99 (DC Comics) – This title made my TEN BEST COMICS OF 2017 list and if you read it, you already know why. Just when this dude feels like the whole world’s against him and he’s gotta show up to take some punishment, he finds out that everything is up in the air. Now, he and Big Barda gotta go through Darkseid’s hordes just to find Orion. Yes, the same Orion that wanted to put Scott to death. Thinking he might change his mind on that when Miracle saves his ass…..maybe. (Andrew)

JUDAS #2 (OF 4) $3.99 (Boom) – Judas and Satan sittin’ in a tree… D-A-M-N-I-N-G… First comes love, then comes temptation, then comes the devil doing something that rhymes with temptation. Whatever. Look, this book is about Judas and Satan hanging out ‘cause they’re buds. Or maybe not. I don’t know. Read the book. It’s a good book. But not like THE good book. Although, there is sort of a version of this in there. I think. Look, it’s been awhile since I read the Bible, okay? This is an excellent series thus far, though. You should totally read it more frequently than I’ve read the Bible. (Kris Johnson)

OLD MAN HAWKEYE #1 (OF 12) $3.99 (Marvel) “That Old Man Logan book sure is popular. Hey, why don’t we do an Old Man Hawkeye book?” – Actual transcript of a Marvel editorial meeting. But seriously, folks, why not do an Old Man Hawkeye book? He was the best character in Mark Millar’s original story from back in the day. It would be cool to see him on his own adventures. Well, looks like Marvel agrees as the first issue hits stands this Wednesday and nothing will ever be the same again. (To tell you the truth, not much will change with the exception that now we’ll have an Old Man Hawkeye book.) (Andrew)

So there you go. That’s this week’s New Comics. Check these books out and let us know what you think. We’ll be back again next week with more choice cuts of comic goodness!

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
