This is a column that we thought we would do each week, picking some books that we think look and sound interesting. Both Andrew and I are going to make some selections that we hope you try out and enjoy. Now this will probably lead to some name calling or fist fights at some point but this is not about which company is better or my general dislike for all things Marvel. No, we want to suggest some titles you may not be reading today but you might like if you did.
By the way, there is no order to this list at all so deal with it.
New Books Released: 05/23/12
COBRA #13 $3.99 (IDW) Cobra’s got G.I.Joe right where they want them. But are they able to deal so easily with themselves? (Andrew)
CHEW #26 $2.99 (Image) Okay so this one is a bit of cheat for me since I usually only read the trades but this series is so good you need to get on board stat! (Mr.Green)
MIND MGMT #1 $3.99 (Dark Horse) I read the synopsis and it intrigued me. A reporter comes across the Mind Management Program while reporting on a plane full of people who have all lost their memories. Psychic Espionage and Clandestine Forces abound. Also, there is a promise of Talking Dolphins. That gets my money right there. (Andrew)
ALL STAR WESTERN #9 (NIGHT OF THE OWLS) $3.99 (DC Comics) Palmiotti and Grey continue to run roughshod over everyone in Jonah’s way. Plus the Holmes and Watson aspect is fun as well. (Mr.Green)
KEVIN SMITH’S BIONIC MAN #9 $3.99 (Dynamite) We’re getting close to the end of Smith’s run on the book. Can’t wait to see how it all plays out. (Andrew)
AQUAMAN #9 $2.99 (DC Comics) Why are you not reading this? No, seriously why? Is it because it stars the king of the sea? You don’t like fish? Whatever your excuse it’s not good enough Johns is making me care about Arthur Curry and I didn’t think that was at all possible. (Mr.Green)
CAPTAIN AMERICA #12 $3.99 (Marvel) The second issue of the “Shock to the System” arc holds a lot of promise. Will Justice be Served? (Andrew)
FLASH #9 $2.99 (DC Comics) So everyone knows that I love Francis Manpul’s art. He has been my 2 time artist of the year. And since taking over writing duties as well, it’s been up and down for me. BUT, his artistic storytelling is second to none in comics right now and every month this book proves it. Just check out his 2 page spreads and you’ll see why plus he recently mentioned that this was a game changing issue. (Mr.Green)
BATMAN INCORPORATED #1 $2.99 (DC Comics) I know I’m not really a Batman fan, but this one marks the return of GRANT MORRISON to the character. I feel an obligation to recommend it. (Andrew)
UNWRITTEN #37 $2.99 (Vertigo) I can not say enough good things about this title. It’s smart, witty and totally engrossing every issue. With great art this is simply one of the finest comics produced on stands today. This book is what people need to check out when trying to understand that comics is not just for children or just about superheroes. (Mr.Green)
So there you go. Check these books out and let us what you thought. Did we help you discover something new or did you really hate it? Either way at least you tried a new title out and experienced something new.
And if you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
