This column each week, is to help you picking some books that we think look and sound interesting. Both Andrew and I are going to make some selections that we hope you try out and enjoy. Now this will probably lead to some name calling or fist fights at some point but this is not about which company is better or my general dislike for all things Marvel. No, we want to suggest some titles you may not be reading today but you might like if you did.

By the way, there is no order to this list at all so deal with it.

New Books Released: 07/11/12

NEW AVENGERS #28 $3.99 (Marvel) I can’t stress how much I love this story. Iron Fist. Kun Lun. And now, Spider-Man. If there was a way to make me care about Hope becoming the Phoenix, it’s everything and everyone in this book. Bendis is on fire with this story arc. If you love Marvel, you need to be reading this title. (Andrew)

SPACE PUNISHER #1 $3.99 (Marvel) That’s right you read that right – SPACE PUNISHER! This looks equal parts ridiculous and awesome at the same time. I can’t wait to check this out. (Mr. Green)

TAKIO #2 $3.95 (Icon) Another Bendis book and this time it’s with superstar artist, Michael Avon Oeming riding shot-gun. This is the second issue of the ongoing series of two childhood superheroes discovering their powers while trying not to be late for school. Read the series that spawned from the best Graphic Novel of 2011. Big Fun Action for the whole family. (Andrew)

SPIDER-MEN #3 $3.99 (Marvel) Andrew got me convinced to give this a try last week when he reviewed it on the show. It sounds like it is a cool fun adventure using 2 characters that should never meet. Plus Mysterio has always been one of my favorite villains in the Spider-Man universe. (Mr. Green)

KEVIN SMITH’S BIONIC MAN #10 $3.99 (Dynamite) It seems like forever since the last issue came out. Now witness the epic conclusion to the story based of the never produced Kevin Smith Screenplay. (Andrew)

BAD MEDICINE #3 $3.99 (ONI Press) I feel shame on this one. I missed the boat on this book for the last 2 issues and I plan to remedy that this week. This was the book that I most enjoyed on Free Comic Book Day. It’s a procedural with some cool weird ass science being baked into it for fun. (Mr. Green)

CHEW: SECRET AGENT POYO #1 3.50 (Image) It’s been awhile since I read Chew. One Character that stood out for me was Poyo. He’s the cock of the walk (pun intended) and one mean robo rooster. You don’t wanna mess with him. Should be equal parts exciting and hilarious. (Andrew)

CROW #1 $3.99 (IDW) I know it’s not James O’Barr but it’s more Crow and hopefully it’s good. The idea of the Crow has always been one that I find interesting so I want to check this out and give it a shot. Hopefully John Shirley the writer of the original film starring Brandon Lee will be successful in launching this tale. Also I have heard that IDW is bringing James O’Barr in to write a brand new tale as well in the future. Looks like the Crow is flying high again. (Mr. Green)

WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN #13 $3.99 (Marvel) Although I am not a fan of his Incredible Hulk run, Jason Aaron’s work on this book is phenominal. I really hope this book survives after AvsX is done and is not one of the casualties of the Marvel Now movement. Great characters set on the back drop of epic stories that you can still relate to. What’s not to love? (Andrew)

BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER SEASON 9 FREEFALL #11 $2.99 (Dark Horse) So a new arc starts in Buffy this week. It’s good times since tha last one was a little boring but it did have some good moments with Andrew and Spike together again. This usually leads to comedy gold and it did a few times which good for me. However for Buffy it was a little bit of a let down story wise. I’m looking forward to this next arc with the return of Kennedy and Buffy gets a new job – one that she can really dive into as “Human Target” on protection detail. Like I said exciting stuff to be sure. (Mr. Green)

So there you go. Check these books out and let us what you thought. Did we help you discover something new or did you really hate it? Either way at least you tried a new title out and experienced something new.

And if you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
