This column each week, is to help you picking some books that we think look and sound interesting. Both Andrew and I are going to make some selections that we hope you try out and enjoy. Now this will probably lead to some name calling or fist fights at some point but this is not about which company is better or my general dislike for all things Marvel. No, we want to suggest some titles you may not be reading today but you might like if you did.

By the way, there is no order to this list at all so deal with it.

New Books Released: 07/25/12

GOON #40 $3.50 (Dark Horse) It’s always a treat whenever a new issue of The Goon comes out. Eric Powell delivers great comedy, action, horror, action-horror and horror comedy with each spectacular issue. (Andrew)

FLASH #11 $2.99 (DC Comics) We start a new story arc in this issue and I look forward to the mayhem and chaos that Francis is going heap on the Flash over the next several months to a year. There are dark times a coming for the Flash. (Mr. Green)

DAREDEVIL BY MARK WAID TP VOL 01 $15.99 (Marvel) Okay, so if there are still people out there who’ve not yet read Mark Waid’s Daredevil, you’ve got to pick this up. No excuses. This was voted by many as the book of 2011. It just won the Eisner Award for crissakes! This is your last chance! (Andrew)

BEFORE WATCHMEN COMEDIAN #2 $3.99 (DC Comics) I am really hoping that this title gets better. So far I have been underwhelmed by what I have read but I like the character and the team working on it. (Mr. Green)

HIT-GIRL #2 $2.99 (Icon) Blood and Violence. What more can you ask for from a Hit-Girl comic? Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. are bringing you the story of what happened to Hit-Girl before Kick-Ass 2. It’s bound to be some balls-to-the-wall excitement. (Andrew)

WINTER SOLDIER #8 $2.99 (Marvel) I can’t help it. I love this book. Even when they brought in Dr. Doom, it didn’t upset me. I have been really liking the cold war era back story and the spy thriller element that Brubaker is rocking in this book. Plus, with the new Cap movie is going to be about this character, I don’t see this title going anywhere anytime soon. (Mr. Green)

X-MEN LEGACY #270 $2.99 (Marvel) From the start of AvsX, this book has really turned around for me. It’s a shame it’s getting the axe in a few months. But let’s enjoy it while we can with the latest issue. Ms. Marvel and Rogue will have to put differences aside when they fight demons! That’s right, demons! Should be hero-fun-times! (Andrew)

AQUAMAN #11 $2.99 (DC Comics) I still like reading this book! Each month just when I think “Okay,  Johns is going to run out of steam and this will begin to slump and not be as good as it has been”… Nope. Doesn’t happen. I hate Aquaman but I like this one and I will continue to push it to you until it sucks – so this’ll never stop. (Mr. Green)

KEVIN SMITH BIONIC MAN TP VOL 01 SOME ASSEMBLY REQUIRED $29.99 (Dynamite) For those that missed out on this 10 issue story that recently came to a close, you can catch up here with the Trade. Dynamic Action, fun characters, witty repartee. It’s an exciting ride and a shame it was never made into a movie.  (Andrew)

NEW DEADWARDIANS #5 $2.99 (Vertigo) This book is great, keeping up the tradition of good alternative titles that have interesting twists. In Edwardian England the world has been over run by zombies and the only solution for some of the people, mostly the rich, is to stay forever young. Yep, they turn themselves into vampires so as to not attract the zombies. It’s about classes, economics, and a murder mystery thrown in. What’s not to like? (Mr. Green)

So there you go. Check these books out and let us what you thought. Did we help you discover something new or did you really hate it? Either way at least you tried a new title out and experienced something new.

And if you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
