This column each week, is to help you picking some books that we think look and sound interesting. Both Andrew and I are going to make some selections that we hope you try out and enjoy. Now this will probably lead to some name calling or fist fights at some point but this is not about which company is better or my general dislike for all things Marvel. No, we want to suggest some titles you may not be reading today but you might like if you did.

By the way, there is no order to this list at all so deal with it.

New Books Released: 08/29/12

PHANTOM LADY #1 $2.99 (DC Comics) Don’t miss this new miniseries from the team of Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. They’re usually right on the money the money no matter the character they write. I got to talk with Jimmy this past weekend at Fan Expo and he told me that they’re doing something different with Phantom Lady. Can’t wait to check it out. (Andrew)

GREEN LANTERN ANNUAL #1 $4.99 (DC Comics) Okay, like or hate it, GL has been interesting most issues, especially lately with the Indigo Tribe story. However, we all know this has been building to something bigger… the 3rd Army. That journey begins here. It will be interesting to see what happens during this story and the fallout afterwards with DC’s new big bad –  the Guardians. (Mr. Green)

MORNING GLORIES #21 $2.99 (Image) Anytime this book hits the stands, you bet I’m gonna promote it. Nick Spencer and Joe Eisma bring you one of the coolest stories I’ve ever read in a comic book. Every time I get to the end of an issue, I’m floored. I don’t what they’re going to write next. Especially after the last issue ended. (Andrew)

JUSTICE LEAGUE #12 $3.99 (DC Comics) Let me be straight. I’m not a fan of this idea but I’m not out holding protest rallies over 2 of the big 3 getting it on. With this issue comes the inclusion of a love story between Superman & Wonder Woman. I think DC does have a plan with this but it’s more long term and will make sense in the end… but will anyone care? Regardless this is going to be messy both on the page and in the real world. (Mr. Green)

GOON #41 $3.50 (Dark Horse) The Zombie Priest Returns! Now sporting the name Mr. Corpus, he’s back to mess with the Goon and all that can come from that is great reading. Don’t be a doofus. Read The GOON! (Andrew)

PETER PANZERFAUST TP VOL 01 THE GREAT ESCAPE $14.99 (Image) This sounds like a really cool story that I missed out on. Peter Pan in World War II. How can this not be a cool reimagining of the classic JM Barrie tale? So this is a good chance to get on board with this cool tale. (Mr. Green)

FLASH ANNUAL #1 $4.99 (DC Comics) Not only does the plot sound great – The Rogues team up to take on The Flash but may end up fighting eachother – but also, look at the creative team assembled for this one:Francis Manapul, Brian Buccellato, Wes Craig, Diogenes Neves, Scott Kolins, Marcus To, and Marcio Takara. This just may well be 48 pages of awesome. (Andrew)

SIXTH GUN #24 $3.99 (Oni Press) Once again, a week of more new stuff. I recently heard about this from J. Torres when he recommended it to me. When he found out I was a Jonah Hex fan, he told me I should be reading this series. I have started to pick up the back issues and look forward to getting caught up on this really cool western tale of awesome. Don’t worry Jimmy & Justin, you still have my heart on Jonah. (Mr. Green)

WINTER SOLDIER #9 $2.99 (Marvel) It was announced this weekend that Ed Brubaker is leaving Marvel. So let enjoy him writing the Winter Soldier while we can. Sure, Ed’s doing a ton of great creator owned work but his take on Bucky is the only reason why anyone gives a crap about him. They’re making a movie focused on him for crissakes! We’ll miss you on this book, Ed. But for now, we will enjoy. (Andrew)

NATIONAL COMICS LOOKER #1 $3.99 (DC Comics) Guillem March, ’nuff said. Not really sure beyond the hot looking art why I care but I’ll give it shot, then we’ll see. March’s work on Catwoman was fantastic but the book was no good otherwise. Let’s hope Ian Edginton makes nice with words and story so that this could be great for March. (Mr. Green)

So there you go. Check these books out and let us what you thought. Did we help you discover something new or did you really hate it? Either way at least you tried a new title out and experienced something new.

And if you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
