This column each week, is to help you picking some books that we think look and sound interesting. Both Andrew and I are going to make some selections that we hope you try out and enjoy. Now this will probably lead to some name calling or fist fights at some point but this is not about which company is better or my general dislike for all things Marvel. No, we want to suggest some titles you may not be reading today but you might like if you did.

By the way, there is no order to this list at all so deal with it.

New Books Released: 09/19/12

AVENGERS ACADEMY #37 $2.99 (Marvel) Like I said last time, I must promote this title every time it hits the shelves. We’re reaching the climax of the “Final Exam” storyline and it looks like it’s gonna be a good one. Christos Gage has produced some of the finest stories in this book and there’s only a few more issues to go. Take a chance and check it out before it’s gone. (Andrew)

GHOST #0 $2.99 (Dark Horse) Hello, Phil Notto on interior art and Jenny Frison on cover. What’s not to like? This Dark Horse mainstay is back and the setup looks promising. Hopefully it’s not a stinker because we need more good female centric female written comics on the shelves. I look forward to seeing if this is as good as advertised. (Mr. Green)

SHADOW #5 $3.99 (Dynamite Entertainment) It always feels like there’s a long time between issues for this series but as the book has progressed, the wait is now worth it. The story took a bit to get going but it appears that Garth Ennis is now on track with his tale. Espionage, International Adventure, Detective Work and the Supernatural. All lay ahead in the pages of this book.  (Andrew)

WOMANTHOLOGY SPACE #1 $3.99 (IDW) I knew nothing of this book until today when I put this list together. But I can say honestly say that for me after Unwritten (listed below), this is the book I most want to read this week. The premise of the original book and now this have me intrigued… women of all ages and writing ability to craft a series of stories involving space as the theme. I applaud efforts to expand our understanding of the art form known as comics with projects like this. Also, we need more women in comics period. (Mr. Green)

SPIDER-MEN #5 of 5 $3.99 (Marvel) The final issue in a well put together mini series. I have really enjoyed this book and am really looking forward to see how it ends. Between this book and New Avengers, Bendis has been hitting it out of the park lately. (Andrew)

VAMPIRELLA RED ROOM #3 $3.99 (Dynamic Forces) I first heard about this series earlier this year when we spoke with Dan Bereton who is writing this one. It’s actually been fun so far and i’m not a big Vampirella fan. The story and the art have been excellent thus far and I am looking forward to the rest of the series. (Mr. Green)

SIREN: THE BEWITCHING ART OF DAN BRERETON HC $34.99 Speaking of Dan Brereton, we got the chance to talk to Dan about his new art book, Siren, at great length back in August. If you want to see drawings of beautiful woman of the night (like Vampires and stuff, not….you know) and big shiny robots, then this book is for you. Dan is one of the most passionate artists we’ve gotten to talk to and his art really displays his passion. I’ve seen scans of this book but I can’t wait to actually hold one in my hands. Dan’s work is amazing. You need to experience it for yourself. (Andrew)

PENGUIN PAIN AND PREJUDICE TP $14.99 (DC Comics) This story was a very good read. We get to see another side of Penguin as he falls in love and what that does to him after that happens. While reading this I actually felt a lot pathos for his character and what he has gone through. That’s how good the mini series was. Do yourself the favour of picking this up. (Mr. Green)

DAREDEVIL #18 $2.99 (Marvel) Another book that I have to recommend every time I get the chance. Since its return, Daredevil has been one of the best books in the Comics market. Great characters, Great Creative Team, Great story and art. Check out the latest issue and see for yourself why it’s the best damn superhero book out there. (Andrew)

UNWRITTEN #41 $2.99 (Vertigo) Like Andrew and Avengers Academy this is the one book that I tell everyone about and never think twice about it. This book is one amazing tale that twists and turns as it goes. This issues in particular looks to be good as it claims to answer some questions from the last few issues. i can’t wait til Wednesday. (Mr. Green)

So there you go. Check these books out and let us what you thought. Did we help you discover something new or did you really hate it? Either way at least you tried a new title out and experienced something new.

And if you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
