When Breaking Bad came to its dramatic conclusion, the slogan for the final episodes was “All Bad Things Must Come to an End”. I even quoted that phrase at the start of my review of the finale. But the truth of the matter is that there’s still tons of things to get excited about if you’re a Breaking Bad Fan. The Complete Series Box Set arrives to Blu-ray on November 26th and the spinoff/prequel series Better Call Saul will be starting on AMC next year. Still, the series isn’t set to air until late summer/early fall 2014 and there’s a 3 week wait before the Box Set’s available. So what can any red blooded Breaking Bad fan do with themselves for the time being? Thankfully, RoundGames.com  has the answer – Breaking Bad: The Ultimate Fan Game!

Free to play on the RoundGames site, the game serves as a trip down memory lane for long time fans of the series as well as fun return to the video games of our youth. 34 levels of side scrolling, platform based action that essentially puts Walter White in a Super Mario Bros. World. You play as Heisenberg himself and the main goal of most levels is simple: Collect the bags of blue meth or the ingredients to make the meth and get the product to your assistant Jesse (eventually Todd). He then gives you the cash you need to win the level. (*SPOILERS* – If you haven’t yet watched Breaking Bad, please do not read the rest of this paragraph and skip to the next one. – *SPOILERS*) The obstacles and side missions vary from taking out Crazy Eight, Tuco and the like using chemical weapons, to getting past your family by feeding them breakfast or keeping your crew happy by throwing them sacks of cash. There’s also some tougher missions like using the magnet to destroy the evidence room in the police station or killing Gus by blowing up Hector. The attention to detail is fantastic and will be appreciated by any Breaking Bad Fanatic. The characters that show up within the game is also well versed. Badger, Skinny Pete, little Brock (yep, you gotta poison him), Steve Gomez, Tortuga’s head on the turtle, all of them are in the game. For the most part, all the big moments of the show are represented in the levels, right down to the final showdown with the Neo Nazis. And as you play, Walt changes accordingly. You start with no pants. You shave your head a few levels in. There’s even a change from mustache to beard as the game progresses. You don’t only get to relive series, you get to take part in it as well.

Yeah, Mr. White! Yeah Science!

The gameplay mechanics are simple in design. I’m not much of a PC gamer so it took me awhile to get use to the direction keys and spacebar setup. It’ll be a breeze to play for you veterans of computer gaming. It has a very classic feel. The simplicity and familiarity make it very easy to get addicted to playing it right away. There’s only 34 levels, so you can finish the game in a short couple of hours. I spent my Saturday afternoon beating it and was tempted to play it all over again.

If you’re looking for something to tide you over until you start your own “Empire Business”…..or at least until the complete series box set comes out, you owe it to yourself to check out  Breaking Bad: The Ultimate Fan Game. Well, why’re you still reading this? Click the link below!
