Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am  joined by Kris Johnson of Bizarre Comics Entertainment. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

Here we go.

STK659723BATMAN AND ROBIN #38 $2.99 (DC Comics) – Damian’s back and now he’s got superpowers! Bruce had a helluva time controlling his League of Assassins-raised ragamuffin when he was just a “normal” human. Now? Bats’ll be lucky if Supes can keep a leash on the little jerk. Pete Tomasi writing Damian Wayne has consistently been one of my favourite things in modern comics and after a brief break from this glorious pairing, I’m more than ready for another go-round. Can’t wait for Wednesday! (Kris Johnson)

GI JOE SNAKE EYES: AGENT OF COBRA #1 $3.99 (IDW) – Agent of Whatnow? Snake-Eyes has joined up with Cobra and is breaking Destro out of prison? Say it ain’t so! But is…..and there’s probably an explination for everything. He’ll have to make sure he changes the colour lazer that comes out of his gun. Don’t miss the first of five issues involving the baddest silent ninja there is (and the most popular Joe of all time) taking a walk on the fang side. Is this really that much of a stretch, though? He is the only Joe to have “Snake” right in his name. Maybe the answer was there all along. That’s half the battle right there. (Andrew)

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #13 $3.99 (Marvel) –  Every Spider-Man ever! EVERY SPIDER-MAN EVER! By Jeebus’s beard, they weren’t kidding! The Spiders prepare for the final throwdown with the Inheritors and every Spider-Man from every dimension joins in the fray… And seriously, you may THINK you know what Marvel means when they say that, but you really don’t fully get it until you read Spider-Verse. They REALLY mean every Spider-Man. And it’s a helluva lot of fun experiencing the brain-melting awesome that is the full scope of that statement. (Kris Johnson)

STK658701POWERS #1 $3.99 (Icon) – Well if it isn’t Powers. The comic about regular cops (or agents, depending on which iteration you’re reading) dealing with superhero crimes. Walker and Pilgrim are back with yet another new #1. This is what, like the 7th or 8th time they’ve gotten another series? Will Bendis and Oeming ever let this book die? I mean, the book has been great but is there anything left to do with these characters? Of course there is. There’s a new televison show coming out and everything! But wait, isn’t it on the Playstation Network? Nevermind. (Andrew)

GUARDIANS OF GALAXY #23 $3.99 (Marvel) – Ever wanted to see what Venom’s homeworld looks like? Pick up GOTG #23 this week and you’ll have your answer. A mystery 30 years in the making will finally be laid bare. Let’s hope the Guardians survive the experience. (Kris Johnson)

DARK HORSE PRESENTS 2014 #6 $4.99 (Dark Horse) – Sci-Fi Superheroes from the future coming to our time? Sign me up. Matt Kindt and Scott Kollin’s Pastaways are the main feature story in this issue of DHP and it looks to be a fun ride. Add to that stories from the likes of Jerry Ordway, Alex de Campi, Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, Andy Kuhn, Keith Champagne, Leonard Kirk and Simon Roy and you’ve got a barrel of comic goodness. All for Five Bucks! That’s even better than that footlong deal at Subway I’m always hearing about. (Andrew)

STK661140BURNING FIELDS #1 $3.99 (Boom) – In this new horror series from BOOM! Studios, writer Michael Moreci and artist Colin Lorimer reveal what terrors lurk beneath the surface of the Earth that are unleashed when man dares to dig too deep in his lust for wealth. When American oil drillers begin disappearing in the Middle East, one Iraqi and one American investigator must unravel a horrific mystery in time to prevent the entire region from falling victim to an ancient evil… and then maybe afterwards get a nice falafel. (Kris Johnson)

HENCHMEN: I HENCHBOT #1 $3.50 (Robot Paper) – Henching ain’t easy. It’s a rought job but somebody’s gotta do it. But what if a company was trying to create a series of robots that would put henchmen out of business. How do fight progress? Start a union? Check out the first of this six issue miniseries that explores job security in a villain’s world. (Andrew)

SPREAD #5 $3.50 (Image) – Are you reading Spread? You should be reading Spread. If you like The Thing, Mad Max, The Walking Dead, Lone Wolf and Cub and post-apocalyptic scenarios in general you should especially be reading Spread. If you’re not reading Spread, I hope you’re doing something worthwhile with your time, like curing cancer or something. You should probably be reading Spread. (Kris Johnson)

STK660541BLACK WIDOW #14 $3.99 (Marvel) – Nathan Edmison and Phil Noto continue to bring you the best Black Widow series EVER! Are you on Natasha’s list? You know, the list of folks that might have info on Chaos? I would be packing my bags and running for cover if I was you. You don’t want to be around when she finds you. The Widow’s on the hunt and she’s coming for anybody that will get her the answers she needs. But how far over the line is she willing to go? Can she still call herself a hero if she does? Has anyone noticed I asked a lot of questions throughout this column? I think it might be a record for me. Anyways, you should know by now that Black Widow is crazy awesome and if you don’t, you’re just lying to yourself. No more questions. (Andrew)

So there you go. Check these books out and let us know what you think. We’ll be back again next week with more choice cuts of comic goodness!

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
