Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am  joined by Kris Johnson of Bizarre Comics Entertainment. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

Here we go.

STK663586BATMAN AND ROBIN #39 $2.99 (DC Comics) – Damian Wayne still has superpowers and Batman’s got no idea how to deal with his now god-like, problem child. Last issue, Bats Junior carved his dead mother’s name into solid marble with a finger and freed his mutated “brothers” from Atlanean prisons, so who knows what shenanigans he’ll get up to this issue! Tug on Superman’s cape? Punch Darkseid in the junk? Shave off half of Ra’s Al Ghul funny little beard? The sky’s the limit. (Kris Johnson)

SHE-HULK #12 $2.99 (Marvel) – Another damn fine, underrated comic title comes to an end. Ah well, it was fun while it lasted. There’s a lot I’d like to say about this book but it can wait for another time (like later this week, when I give my review of the series). All I know is that Shulky better solve the mystery of the Blue File before it’s all said and done. I hate cliffhanger endings…….To be clear, I hate endings that have cliffhangers, not the ending of Cliffhanger….although that movie wasn’t one of my favorites either. (Andrew)

SCALPED HC BOOK 01 DELUXE EDITION $29.99 (Vertigo) – Hey… Did you guys know that I’m a big fan of Jason Aaron? You did? Well, that’s nice of you to have noticed. I know I’m not too forward with the info so it’s pretty cool you’ve picked up on those subtleties in my writing. Something else you may have noticed? Scalped is fucking awesome! And hey, if that’s a piece of knowledge that’s passed you by then this Wednesday is your lucky day. Why? Because Vertigo is releasing the first 11 issues of one of the greatest crime comics of all time in a brand-new, spiffed-up hardcover. Pick it up this week and experience the glory in the grime of the Prairie Rose Rez. (Kris Johnson)

STK662963EI8HT #1 OUTCAST $3.50 (Dark Horse) – Stuck in another dimension and sporting a case of selective amnesia, Joshua, a choronaut, must find his way through this strange place to complete his mission. If only he could remember what the hell that is. And what’s up with this mysterious voice that’s guiding him? Some classic sci-fi tropes and breath taking artwork are in store for all those that take the risk and pick up Ei8ght Outcast, the book that drives home it’s title by using both the alpha and the numeric. (Andrew)

MULTIVERSITY: MASTERMEN #1 $4.99 (DC Comics) – Nazi Supermen take over the world… Literally! Every wartime nightmare the United States ever had comes true when Grant Morrison and Jim Lee shine a light on a dark corner of the multiverse in which Kal-El’s rocket is discovered not by Ma and Pa Kent but by Adolf Hitler himself! What nightmarish wonders will spill forth from the psychotropic-addled mind of the Mad Scotsman? Find out for yourself this Wednesday. (Kris Johnson)

CRIMINAL TP VOL 02 LAWLESS $14.99 (Image) – Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips’ greatest crime noir series reprinted at Image. Tracy Lawless has returned home to find out who killed his brother…..and then kill them, obviously. ‘Nuff Said. (Andrew)

STK662845PLUNDER #1 $3.99 (Boom) – Swifty Lang teams up with the ultra-talented Skuds McKinley to bring a new vision of horror on the high seas to the comic rack. When Somali pirates board a research vessel in search of booty, they find themselves face to face with nothing but horror and death. As hope begins to slip away, it appears the only possibility for survival lies in the hands of a 14-year-old boy. But how can a young translator hope to defeat what heavily armed pirates are defenceless against? (Kris Johnson)

THE KITCHEN #4 $2.99 (Vertigo) – Everything’s been going pretty well for Kath, Raven and Angie as they’ve gotten the hang of running their territory in the Kitchen. But now comes the moment they’ve been dreading: their husbands are getting out of prison and they’re not too happy about the fact that their wives have taken their piece of the action. Are these women willing to go to war with their husbands for the ownership of Hell’s Kitchen? Ain’t no Daredevil to break it up in this comic. These ladies are on their own. (Andrew)

UNCANNY X-MEN #31 $3.99 (Marvel) – Havok Vs. Cyclops. The latest violent chapter in the tumultuous lives of the Summers brothers is presented this week in Uncanny. I’m hoping for a couple eye-pokes and at least one hammer-claw up the nose. (Kris Johnson)

STK663853SECRET IDENTITIES #1 $3.50 (Image)You’ll never guess my Secret Identity. Finally, a comic adaptation of the classic Canadian sitcom starring Jerry O’Connell about a boy who gets super powers…….wait, what? Oh, Secret Identities! This has nothing to do with that old show, does it? No, it’s about a new hero joining The Front Line, a well respected super team with it’s fair share of secrets. What they don’t know is that this hero is a mole who’s there to find all those secrets and expose them. I wonder what Dr. Jeffcoat would do in this situation? These obscure references to a show that most of you have never seen is brought to you by a number of childhood Saturday afternoons spent in doors watching whatever was on tv. I knew that this knowledge would come in handy some day. (Andrew)

So there you go. Check these books out and let us know what you think. We’ll be back again next week with more choice cuts of comic goodness!

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
