If you’ve been checking out this site over the past few years, you know we love our genre films. Every year, at the end of October, that becomes abundantly clear as we talk and post a lot about all the movies we get to see at the Toronto After Dark Film Festival! Now celebrating its 10th year, Toronto After Dark will be getting us scared and excited on October 15th to 23rd at the Scotiabank Theatre in Toronto. 9 nights of horror, thriller, sci-fi and a bit of comedy are coming your way if you make it out to the fest!

This past week, the After Dark officially announced the first 10 films of this year’s lineup. You can click HERE to check out the full announcement.

Among the list, there are quite a few interesting entries. I think the one I’m most excited to see is TAG, a story about 3 Japanese school girls who are on the run from a mysterious force that’s killing every girl around them. I was a big fan of Battle Royale and this film appears to have similar motivations and just as much bloody death.

Another film from the bunch that intrigued me was A Christmas Horror Story. I usually don’t like to watch Christmas films in October but I think I will make an exception for this Canadian horror film that takes place in the town of Bailey Downs (Hey, is that the same town from Ginger Snaps?). With a large cast of characters that includes William Shatner as a smarmy radio DJ and a group of Santa’s elves that appear to have become zombie-fied, I think this film will have an equal amount of laughs and scares to put us in the holiday spirit a little early.

Throw in a heavy metal comedy about actually raising demons (Deathgasm), a crew of idiots who are Earth’s last defense from an alien invasion (Lazer Team) and a straight up vigilante story where a guy tries to get through his own issues by exacting justice on the streets (The Demolisher) and you’ve got some films to get excited about! As stated above, the full list of the 10 films are available over at the Toronto After Dark website, where you can also check out trailers and find out how to purchase tickets to this awesome festival.

Be sure to check back here in the coming weeks for a video of our chat with festival organizer Adam Lopez about these films and the fest in general. If you’re looking for After Dark news, be sure to keep checking back here as we’ll talking a lot about the fest.

See you After Dark and if you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
