Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by Kris Johnson of Bizarre Comics Entertainment. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

Here we go.

STK684847GOON IN THEATRE BIZARRE #1 $3.99 (Dark Horse) – It’s mid-October and that means my second favourite holiday, Halloween, is almost upon us. Of course, it also means something else that’s just as important: Halloween comics! Yessir, I’m super-stoked just thinking about all the wonderful horror books that’re on the way in the coming weeks and one of the first out of the gate is this here fancy new Goon comic. As always, creator Eric Powell supplies the words and art in this festive-flavoured tale that finds the Goon trapped inside the real-world Detroit event: Theatre Bizarre. Will the big galoot make it out alive? Of course he will, the real question is just how many evil clowns he’ll have to sock in the mush first. (Kris Johnson)

GRAPHIC INK THE DC COMICS ART OF DARWYN COOKE HC $39.99 (DC Comics) – Well, if it isn’t a ton of DC comics and covers by one of the best damn artists around. That’s right, this new Hardcover collects some great work by a guy that knows his way around the DCU. You want Batman, Jonah Hex, JSA Allstars? He’s done ’em all. This book’s even got his work in Talent Showcase #19 from 1985. If you like yourself some Cooke, this is the book to get. (Andrew)

BLOOD FEUD #1 $3.99 (Oni Press)“This is Halloween / Everybody make a scream / Trick or treat till the neighbours die of fright…” Another horror comic! Yeah! And this one’s got vampires in it! Yeah! But not the shitty ones that sparkle or star in soapy CW shows that you wanna make out with and stuff! DOUBLE YEAH! Yessir, hell comes to a small southern American town and the only thing that stands between the down-home denizens and total damnation are a few young lads who’re just trying to finish their weekly poker game. This one has been getting some great advanced buzz for it’s solid horror notes, great characterization and fun setting so be sure to check it out when you hit your LCS this week. (Kris Johnson)

STK685859CAPTAIN AMERICA SAM WILSON #1 $3.99 (Marvel) – It’s been over a year since Sam Wilson became Captain America. Back then he was All-New! Now he’s All-New! & All-Different! So what’s so different about him? This time he’s got the creative team of Nick Spencer and Daniel Acuna to back him up. Spencer has been kicking ass with Ant-Man and Superior Foes of Spider-Man before that. Acuna’s raged with Ultron and been pretty Uncanny. What does this duo have in store for Cap? Gonna have to pick up the book find out, friend. (Andrew)

TWO BROTHERS HC $24.99 (Dark Horse) – The Eisner-winning duo of Gabriel Ba and Fabio Moon re-team once again for this new graphic novel published by the fine folks at Dark Horse Comics. Following a violent conflict at a young age, two brothers are separated. One is sent to live with relatives in Lebanon, while the other remains with their parents in Brazil. Five years later, the boys are reunited, but even the passage of time cannot dull old tensions. An examination of family, identity and the ties that bind us all, Two Brothers offers something a little different on this week’s comic shelf. Give ‘er a read. (Kris Johnson)

PEANUTS A TRIBUTE TO CHARLES M SCHULZ HC $34.99 (Boom) – Good Grief this is awesome! This is the first tribute of it’s kind as never before has the estate of Charles Schulz allowed artists to render the Peanuts character in their own signature styles! We’re gonna see what Peanuts would look like through the eyes of Mike Allred, Paul Pope, Jeff Lemire and More! Of all the Charlie Brown comics in the world right now, this is the Charlie Brown-iest! (Andrew)

STK685674CHEWBACCA #1 $3.99 (Marvel) – Everyone’s favourite walking carpet stars in a brand-new series set in the galaxy far, far away! In an attempt to continue Marvel’s hot-streak with the Star Wars brand, Gerry Duggan and Phil Noto are stepping up to the plate with a fresh yarn that finds our boy Chewie stranded on an Imperial-occupied planet. With no ship, no backup, and no obvious route of escape, Chewbacca must use his wits and trusty bowcaster to carve a way back home. Expect growling, yowling, and good-old fashioned heroism, ya’ll. (Kris Johnson)

I HATE FAIRYLAND #1 $3.50 (Image) – Skottie Young brings us the mature reader comic about a girl who’s been stuck in Fairyland for 30 years and is trying to find a way by killing anything that’s in her way! ‘Nuff Said. I’m sold. (Andrew)

GUARDIANS OF GALAXY #1 $3.99 (Marvel) – It’s a New Day, yes it is, and while Big E, Kofi, and Woods are nowhere in sight, Peter Quill has dropped the mantle of Star-Lord, quit the Guardians, and set up shop as the new Emperor of Spartax, so that intro was totally apt. So, with Quill out of the picture, what happens to the GotG? Well, you should probably direct that question to their new leader, Rocket Racoon, or the newly christened Star-Lord, er, Star-Lady Kitty Pryde. Wait, What? I know, I’m confused too. We should probably buy the comic! (Kris Johnson)

STK684205ASSASSINS CREED #1 REG EDWARDS $3.99 (Titan) – Anthony Del Col & Conner McCreery. These dudes have put their stamp on Shakespeare and Sherlock Holmes. Now they’re taking a crack at adapting Ubisoft’s biggest video game franchise. Time traveling through your own ancestors to find important artifacts that will affect the battle between good and evil? It’s a tough job but somebody’s gotta do it. The job is all the more sweet with artwork by Neil Edwards. Are you ready to play? (Andrew)
