Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by Kris Johnson of Bizarre Comics Entertainment. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

Here we go.

STL002373GRIZZLY SHARK #1 (of 3) $3.50 (Image) – If you need to be convinced that you should be reading a book called fucking Grizzly Shark, I really don’t know what you’re doing with your life.  (Kris Johnson)

BLACK WIDOW #2 $3.99 (Marvel) – If there was a second issue that I couldn’t wait to crack open, it would have to be this one! The first issue was a non-stop chase scene that never let up and the Widow looks to now be Enemy #1 in S.H.I.E.L.D.’s eyes. So why does she have their back as the top brass of the organization hold a funeral to bury one of their own? Is the Widow still working for Maria Hill? I can’t wait to find out as the bad-assery will be legendary! (Andrew)

ROUGH RIDERS #1 $1.99 (Aftershock) – Adam Glass and Pat Olliffe come together to present a sort of historical League of Extraordinary Gentlemen as history’s greatest bad asses come together in an attempt to thwart a danger that could wipe out all of reality. Led by Teddy Roosevelt, the crew comprised of Annie Oakley, Harry Houdini, Jack Johnson, and more, must travel to Cuba and and stop a conflict that could consume the world before it ever gets a chance to start. (Kris Johnson)

STL002297THE FIX #1 $3.99 (Image) – Nick Spencer has teamed up with Steve Lieber once again to bring us The Fix. Will this new crime comic live up to the awesome that was their last collaboration (Superior Foes of Spider-Man for those not in the know)? Here’s the simple answer: If Nick Spencer is writing it, you should be buying it! (Andrew)

SPIDER-MAN #3 $3.99 (Marvel) – Miles Morales teams up with Kamala Khan to tackle the most nefarious of villains: Studying! Can Miles cram in all of the knowledge he needs to up his grades into his already overstuffed brain while simultaneously killing it at the superhero game? And will it be enough to convince his hard-ass, latina grandma that slapping him upside the head is not entirely necessary? Important questions, all. (Kris Johnson)

BATGIRL #50 $4.99 (DC Comics) – To all things an ending! What a great run, right? Team Batgirl (Cameron Stewart, Brendan Fletcher and superstar artist Babs Tarr) brought it on this book. There was something for fangirls and boys of all ages. They’re capping off with an explosive conclusion and the gang’s all here! Hats off to the fine folks that have given us one of DC’s few enjoyable titles. (Andrew)

STL001673BLACK PANTHER #1 $4.99 (Marvel) – Ta-Nahesi Coates and the legendary Brian Stelfreeze bring T’Challa back to the land of solo comics with the launch of this new series! Marvel, kicking ass at the whole media synergy thing once again (Black Panther shows up in next month’s cinematic throw down, Captain America: Civil War, ya’ll!), has decided the best way to get people interested in the King of Wakanda is the to pair a great writer with a phenomenal artist and just, you know, see what happens. Welp, it looks like what happens is a terrorist organization sets its sights on the Black Panther’s domain, and sparks an uprising in the process. Will the king be able to reign in and protect his kingdom all at the same time? Pick up this book and find out! (Kris Johnson)

EMPRESS #1(of 7) $3.99 (Icon) – The first installment of this brand new sci-fi epic care of Mark Millar and Stuart Immonen. Imagine you’re married to the biggest asshole planet conqueror there is and if you try to leave, he’ll kill you. Shitty marriage choice, I know, but she probably didn’t see the asshole side of this guy until after the “I Do”s. Anyways, she has no choice but try and get away from this guy for the sake of her three kids. Sounds like a fun read but you wouldn’t want to live there. (Andrew)

STAR WARS: POE DAMERON #1 $4.99 (Marvel) – The dreamiest X-Wing pilot from a galaxy far, far away finally gets his own solo showcase from the fine folks at Marvel! In this Episode VII prequel tale, Poe is tasked with investigating sites with historical ties to the Force. His purpose? I’m guessing “find Luke Skywalker” is somewhere near the top of the list, but with Mr. Perfect Hair’s penchant for finding trouble, my bet is things won’t be that straight forward. Lucky for us! Action! Explosions! Laser sounds! Blast off with the best pilot in the galaxy care of Charles Soule and Phil Noto this Wednesday! (Kris Johnson)

STK696221SCOTLAND YARD HC $17.99 (Dark Horse) – You gotta feel bad for this Inspector Gregson guy. He screwed up big time during a prisoner transfer and now two deadly psychopaths are loose on the streets. The only way he can fix this is to capture the criminals and bring them back to prison. Easier said than done, of course. Gregson’s gotta get his hands dirty and make some unlikely alliances to pull this one off. The artwork by Stephanie Perger brings this story by Dobbs hauntingly to life. If you like your crime comics, you’ll like Scotland Yard. (Andrew)
