Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by Kris Johnson of Bizarre Comics Entertainment. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

Here we go.

STL002323HOT DAMN #1 (of 5) $3.99 (IDW) – Ryan Ferrier and Valentin Ramon re-team to present readers with a brand new vision of Hell! Gone are the lakes of fire and in their place stands the REAL Hell. Skyscrapers, subways, shitty food you shouldn’t be putting in your body… and demons. Lots and lots of demons. Okay, so maybe the real Hell is a little like the Hell you’ve always heard about, with the added wrinkle of forcing its denizens into an eternity of group therapy. Yeahbuhwaaaaah? (Kris Johnson)

DEADLY CLASS #20 $3.99 (Image) – Longtime readers of this column know I luvs me some Deadly Class. This book has been a “thrill ride of epic proportions” as the old school Hollywood hype men might say. Things are coming to a boil here as Marcus is about to go head to head with his friends in a game of “kill or be killed”. What better ally in a time like this than a sworn enemy? “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” as those same mentioned Hollywood hype men might inject at this point. All I know is that SHIT IS GONNA HIT THE FAN….Just to be clear, that’s me talking and not the hype men. (Andrew)

MOON KNIGHT #1 $4.99 (Marvel) – The latest Moon Knight series launches this week from mind of Jeff Lemire! Greg Smallwood joins him on pencils for this tale that finds Marc Spector locked away in a loony bin. As the walls close in and the doctors poke and prod, Mooney begins to question whether or not his entire superhero career has been anything but a delusion. It’s crazy piled on top of crazy! Yup, sounds like a Moon Knight book. (Kris Johnson)

STL000514NAMELESS CITY  VOL 1 (of 3) GN $14.99 (First Second) – A new graphic novel by Faith Erin Hicks. That should be enough to make you part with your money. For those of you don’t know just how awesome Faith is, this is the story of a city that’s forever getting conquered by a new, occupying force. Every army that takes it over in this never ending war gives the city a new name. So to the permanent residents of the town, the city has no name. What’s the point, right? It’s just gonna change anyways. Two kids become unlikely friends in this city with no real name. Why so unlikely? Well this girl has lived there all her life and this boy is a new inhabitant. What will bring these two crazy kids together? Why the Nameless City, of course! Haven’t you been paying attention to anything I just said? (Andrew)

BLACK ROAD #1 $3.99 (Image) – Magnus the Black braves the frozen wastes of Norway on the trail of a murderer, carving his own path through the Viking Age as neither Christian nor Pagan, and following a code all his own. Brought to vivid life by Brian Wood and Garry Brown, Black Road is sure to continue the wonderful work that Wood began with Northlanders, but promises to be at least two to three, maaaaaaybe four times bloodier. Enjoy or end up with a boarding axe lodged in your dome. Your choice. (Kris Johnson)

CAPTAIN AMERICA 75TH ANNIV MAGAZINE #1 $9.99 (Marvel)When Captain America throws his mighty shield / All those who oppose his mighty shield must yield!/ Happy 75th Cap. You don’t look your age…..well you did for about a year or so, but a messed up cosmic cube that looks like a little kid took care of all that. Now you’re young and spry again! Time to celebrate! What better way than to look back on all the great Cap adventures from punching Hitler to Sammy boy kicking ass in your honor than a brand-spankin-new Magazine? (Andrew)

STL001109HOUSE OF PENANCE #1 (of 6) $3.99 (Dark Horse) – The Winchester House is a weird place. Sarah Winchester was a weird person. Pete Tomasi aims to provide some insight into the source of that weirdness with his own unique take on the fictional history of this very real structure, with a healthy dose of creative license, obviously. Unless, of course, you believe in demons and stuff. In which case, don’t read this book with the lights out. Or at least put on some plastic pants before you do. (Kris Johnson)

STRINGERS TP $19.99 (Oni) – Okay so imagine Jake Gyllenhaal’s character in Nightcrawler wasn’t a complete creep and was actually two guys named Paul and Nick and you followed them around, seeing them do their job as night reporters/videographers on the streets of L.A. All is cool. Well, it’s cool until the LAPD and MS-13 get into a firefight and Paul and Nick get caught in the middle of it. Now they’re on the run and shit just got real…..but at least they’re not Gyllenhaal’s character in Nightcrawler….that dude was just TOO creepy. (Andrew)

GOLDIE VANCE #1 (of 4) $3.99 (Boom)Nancy Drew. Eloise. Veronica Mars. Lumberjanes. Apparently all of those things got together, banged it out, and Goldie Vance was the glorious product of that sweet, sweet fictional lovin’. From the team of Hope Larson and Brittney Williams, this new series tells the tale of a 16-year-old sleuth as she begins her journey into the annals of awesome detective-dom. Armed with only her smarts and skills, will she take a place amongst the true greats? Pick up this ish to experience her first steps on the path. (Kris Johnson)

STL002285GWENPOOL #1 $4.99 (Marvel) – So yeah, Gwenpool. How did this even become a comic? She’s a comic reader from our world that woke up in the Marvel Universe and can’t believe that any of it’s real. And if it’s not real, there’s no consequences. If you’ve seen her online stuff or her backup stories in Howard the Duck, you already know that this chick is loopy. Time to see what anarchy she gets up to in this here book. I guarantee that with great ignorance comes no responsibility. (Andrew)
