Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by Kris Johnson of Bizarre Comics Entertainment. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

Here we go.

STL012759ARCHIE #11 $3.99 (Archie) – When Veronica joins up with Archie and Jughead to form the hottest new band in Riverdale, Betty is understandably upset. But because Betty is a bad-ass, she doesn’t just sit in the corner and sulk. Oh no, she decides she’ll just form a group of her own! It’s Betty vs. Jughead, Veronica and Archie in a Battle of the Bands! Who will emerge victorious? Who will tuck tale and run? Who will eat a pile of hamburgers! Only the last answer is obvious! (Kris Johnson)

DEATHSTROKE #1 $2.99 (DC Comics) – Did you ever have to make up your mind? / Fulfill your contract or let your friend die / If you like the money, it’s hard to abide / Did you ever have to make up your mind? Yes friends, Slade Wilson is in a bit of a pickle as he’s in the middle of a war torn country dealing with a Dictator and a Super villain who’re no longer willing to play nice. He’s got a job to do but in order to do it, he’s got to let an old buddy die. Talk about a stressful work environment, eh? But that’s the assassination game for ya. It’s not often easy and it’s not often kind / Did you ever have to finally decide? (Andrew)

X-MEN X-TINCTION AGENDA TP $34.99 (Marvel) – Hey, remember when X-Men comics were good and stuff? I know, I know, it’s been awhile, but believe it or not, there was a time when Fox didn’t own the theatrical rights to the characters and Marvel actually gave a shit about capitalizing financially on their popularity by creating top-selling comic book events centered around them. The memories are understandably fuzzy at this point, but that era of comics actually lasted around, oh, almost 30 years. Blink of an eye, really. Revisit the glory of those heady X-days gone by, by picking up this new printing of the classic X-Tinction Agenda crossover in a hand-dandy trade paperback. Combining the talents of legendary creators like Chris Claremont, Louise Simonson, Jim Lee, and Rob Liefeld, the X-Tinction Agenda finds X-Factor, X-Force and The X-Men targeted for destruction by the insane and newly powered-up Cameron Hodge. Lured to his island stronghold of Genosha, the X-Teams are imprisoned and enslaved. And their freedom will cost them dearly. Heroes live. Heroes die. In the end, the X-family is changed forever. Pick it up, yo. It’s a good one. (Kris Johnson)

STL012100FAITH #2 $3.99 (Valiant) – Nobody forgets their first time…..facing off against their very own super villain. It’s cool because this is all yours, SOLO, nobody else got your back. The bad news is that you gotta do this all on your own, SOLO, nobody else got your back. Add to this that somebody in the shadows is close to revealing Faith’s secret identity and you’ve got some pretty high stakes. I know she’ll pull through this. I believe her. I have……well, you get the idea. (Andrew)

PITIFUL HUMAN LIZARD #8 $3.99 (Chapterhouse) – It’s the Pitiful Human-Lizard vs Gull Girl! Our pals Jason Loo and Fred Kennedy team up to tell the story of the first encounter between Toronto’s reptile-themed hero and the Scourge of the ’Scotshe! As Good ol’ JR used to say, “It’s sure to be a slobberknocker so don’t ya dare miss it!(Kris Johnson)

CAPTAIN AMERICA: STEVE ROGERS #4 $4.99 (Marvel) – Steve Rogers is in a predicament that most would not like to find themselves: stuck between a Danvers and a Stark Place! Looks like ol’ Stevesy’s gotten roped into the Civil War II peace talks and things are not going great. Can OG Cap make “truce” the magic word and have Carol and Tony get along again? That’s a tall order. My personal suggestion would be to send them both to their room without dinner so they can think about what they’ve done. That always worked on Bucky, right? (Andrew)

STL014266LAKE OF FIRE #1 $3.99 (Image) – In 1220 AD, in the midst of the Albigensian Crusade, an alien warship crash lands in the Pyrenees wilderness. On board: a bunch of bloodthirsty, predatory extra-terrestrials. What could possibly stand between them and mankind’s total subjugation? How about a handful of French Crusaders?! … Yeah, we’re probably fucked. (Kris Johnson)

X-MEN TP WORST X-MAN EVER $16.99 (Marvel) -Hey, would you look at that. Not one, but TWO X-Men trades on the old New Comics blog this week! How do you like them apples? But instead of a classic X-Over from the big pecs, big tits, big guns decade of the 90s, this one’s a newer classic of the comedic variety. That’s right, Bailey Hoskins is the Worst X-Man EVER! You can pick up this trade and see how Bailey goes from being the social outcast of his highschool to the social outcast of Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters in 5 easy steps. Gotta give this boy credit for being consistent. With art by Michael Walsh, you gotta give this book credit for looking pretty freakin’ awesome! (Andrew)

BLUE BEETLE: REBIRTH #1 $2.99 (DC Comics) – When DC Comics took the extremely popular and well-written Jaime Reyes, tucked him in a box, and put him of the shelf of “amazing characters we’re not using for some reason”, they committed one of the most unforgivable acts in the history of modern superhero comics. This week, they finally right some wrongs by bringing Jaime back and giving him a fancy, new ongoing series. The team of Keith Giffen and Scott Kolins are responsible for returning the Blue Beetle to the streets of El Paso and at last, the healing can be begin. (Kris Johnson)

STK687115KINGSWAY WEST #1 $3.99 (Dark Horse) – You ever look back at the Old West and think, “Hey, you know what this place needs? Some magic, monsters and racist vigilantes.” Well Greg Pak and Mirko Colak have read your mind. Enter Kingsway Law, a Chinese gunslinger who’s just gotten out of prison and wants nothing else than to find his wife. But things are never that easy, are they? No they’re not. If they were, we wouldn’t have a comic to read, now would we? So what’s a guy gotta do to get past all the crazy shit on the fantasy-based Western Plains? Maybe team up with a woman who’s got a magic sword and needs his help? Yeah, that works. But why the hell do you need help when you’ve got a magic sword? So many questions. I guess I’ll just have to pick up the damn book to find out. You should too. Then we can meet at the coffee shop and discuss it. What? You thought I was asking you out on a date? No, I meant just as friends. Listen, I gotta go but I’ll text you later….yeah, see ya. (Andrew)

So there you go. That’s this week’s New Comics Check these books out and let us know what you think. We’ll be back again next week with more choice cuts of comic goodness!

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
