Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by Kris Johnson of Bizarre Comics Entertainment. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

INCREDIBLE HULK #709 $3.99 (Marvel)Marvel Legacy alert! The return to classic numbering marks the opening chapter of Return to Planet Hulk! The Hulk has intercepted a distress call from the planet Sakaar, and will journey back to the planet on which he was once king in order to help those in need. The only problem is this Hulk isn’t the Hulk that liberated Sakaar. No, this Hulk is of the Totally Awesome variety, and Amadeus Cho is in the middle of trying to contain and control the rage within. Good thing he’s not gonna be spending a whole lotta time anywhere that literally requires somebody to give into their base emotions and animal nature to survive even 5 minutes there. Oh wait… Shit. (Kris Johnson)

KONG: GODS OF SKULL ISLAND ONESHOT $7.99 (Boom) – Hey kids, did you check out that awesome Kong: Skull Island movie earlier this year? You didn’t? Why’s that? Oh, you thought it was stupid, eh? Well you just cheated yourself out of an awesome movie is what you did. How ’bout you don’t miss another opportunity and pick up this one shot. It takes place in 1912 and tells of a group who come to the island in hopes to bring civilization to the native Tagatu. I’m guessing things turn south when they find out about Kong. Just a theory. (Andrew)

WONDER WOMAN/CONAN #2 (OF 6) $3.99 (DC Comics)Gail Simone and Aaron Lopresti absolutely destroyed on the first issue of this how-have-they-never-done-this-before crossover. I’m telling you, it’s positively barbaric that DC and Dark Horse have never brought these two characters together before now. The pairing is fit for a king, I’d say. The idea to set the whole thing in the Hyborian Age is a stroke of goddess-like genius. The whole package is just absolutely wonderful, friends. PUNS! Ahem. While Princess Diana struggles with a lack of memory and a life of combat inside of an Aquilonian arena, our favourite Cimmerian barbarian fights to free both him and his new raven-haired companion from bondage. Wonder Woman has already proven she doesn’t need the assist, but that doesn’t mean she’s not gonna take it. That would just be bad manners and she’s royalty, ya’ll. (Kris Johnson)

JLA: THE NAIL DELUXE EDITION HC $39.99 (DC Comics) – Back in the ’90, Alan Davis released an Elseworlds miniseries that posed some interesting questions. What if the Kents didn’t find that rocket? What if there was no Superman when the Justice League was formed? How important is the Man of Steel to the fabric of the DC Universe? The answers can be found in this Deluxe Edition Hardcover which collects The Nail and the follow up mini, Another Nail. Damn fine reading for those who love wonder. (Andrew)

MIGHTY THOR #700 $5.99 (Marvel)Marvel Legacy! The Death of the Mighty Thor” begins and Jane Foster’s time on this Earth as the Goddess of Thunder is running out. Unfortunately for her, MANGOG has come. His aim? To make her final days more painful than she can possibly imagine. Considering cancer has completely ravaged every cell in her body, that is going to take some doing. Can you believe this Mangog dude? Beating up cancer patients? What a douche. Good thing there are literally three different Thors kicking around to smash his face in. He deserves it. *clap clap clapclapclap* (Kris Johnson)

KILL OR BE KILLED #13 $3.99 (Image) – Dylan, the red-masked vigilante who stars in this here comic magazine, is caught in a three front war. He’s got the cops, the Russian mob, and his own sanity to worry about. What is a boy to do? “Keep on killing criminals” is my guess. He’s really good at it. (Andrew)

KILL THE MINOTAUR #5 $3.99 (Image) – The journey to the center of the labyrinth has concluded and the Minotaur is dead! Wait? What? There’s two whole issues left. How the shit can the Minotaur be dead? The book is literally called Kill the Minotaur. Wouldn’t the death of said character mean the conclusion of the book itself? Yeah… I don’t get it either. I guess I’ll just have to keep reading this awesome comic to find out what the hell is going on. (Kris Johnson)

MAESTROS #1 $3.99 (Image) – When the wizard king and his entire family are killed, his Earth-born son will inherit the throne. This story sounds exactly like the plot to King Ralph….if King Ralph took place on another planet and the throne came with special powers, that is. Otherwise, just like King Ralph. (Andrew)

BATMAN: THE DROWNED #1 $3.99 (DC Comics) – It comes as a great surprise to me whenever even one tie-in book attached to a major event from the Big Two is actually any good. So you can imagine how terrified I am that pretty much every single comic that has been put out during DC’s massive Dark Knights extravaganza has been pretty goddamn phenomenal. Is the world ending? Is the fabric of reality itself being torn asunder? Are we ourselves being pulled into the Dark Multiverse? Nothing makes sense anymore, dammit! The world has gone topsy turvy. All of reality must now be questioned. But make no mistake, you should be reading this new one-shot detailing the origin of yet another Dark Batman. And when you’re done, you’ve gotta go back and read the rest. My sanity depends on it. (Kris Johnson)

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #593 $3.99 (Marvel) – Ya’ll ready for this? Tony Stark’s been in a coma for a long time and it looks like he might be gone for good. Or not. This new story is called The Search for Tony Stark after all. Riri Williams and Victor Von Doom have been filling in for the missing Tony. But just like Highlanders, THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE! So it’s time to put your money on who you think is coming out on top. My money’s on IronHeart. She’s way cooler than Doom, hands down. But time’s gonna tell on this one. (Andrew)

So there you go. That’s this week’s New Comics. Check these books out and let us know what you think. We’ll be back again next week with more choice cuts of comic goodness!

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
