Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Sammy Younan as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
Christmas is coming! Excitement is in the air. Andrew feels it. Sammy, not so much.
In the spirit of the season, this week’s episode is Christmas themed. We’re taking a look back at the 2012 miniseries, Happy! Written by Grant Morrison with artwork from Darick Robertson, Happy is the story of a former cop turned hitman named Nick Sax. When a hit goes bad, Nick is near death and is visited by Happy, a talking pegasus covered in blue feathers that is about a square foot in size. Happy is also the imaginary friend of a little girl who’s been kidnapped by evil men planning to do very bad things to her. For some reason, Nick can see her imaginary friend and the two must find the girl and save the day before it’s too late.
This isn’t a Christmas story that’s fun for the whole family. It’s a mature reader book, for sure. There’s also a new television series based on the comic debuting tonight on the Syfy network (and tomorrow night on Showcase here in Canada). Make this day a Happy! one. Listen to our review of the comic and then check out the pilot! Sounds like a great idea! All this and more, coming your way on an ALL NEW Back Issue Bloodbath.
