Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Sammy Younan as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
This week on Bloodbath, we take a look at the recent five issue miniseries, Phoenix Resurrection: The Return of Jean Grey. Written by Matthew Rosenberg, the series came out once a week for the month of January. It featured art from the likes of Leinil Francis Yu, Carlos Pacheco, Joe Bennett and Ramon Rasanas. As the title suggests, it tells the story of Jean Grey being resurrected by The Phoenix Force. But the Phoenix couldn’t just be straight forward and bring Jean back to life, easy peasy. No, there had to be a number of psychic incidents around the world. Oh, and don’t forget a whole town inhabited by dead people enclosed in a glowing egg. Does your head hurt from that description? Mine sure does. Thankfully, it doesn’t sound all that complicated on the episode.
Join Andrew and Sammy as they break down the series and talk about the highs and lows that Jean has to go through. We also take a look at the first issue of X-Men: Red and reminisce about how big of a dick Cyclops was when he was still alive. (Hopefully young Scott Summers can do a little course correction and avoid all that “I’m the Messiah” shit that the older model went through.) It all goes down on your favourite podcast that always rises from the ashes.
