Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Sammy Younan as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
This week on Bloodbath, we take a look back on four graphic novels that can be easily described as Darwyn Cooke’s masterpiece. From 2009 to 2013, IDW released the comic book adaptations of Richard Stark’s Parker, written and drawn by Cooke. The four novels in question are The Hunter, The Outfit, The Score and Slayground. These stories follow the criminal career of Parker, a master criminal who works smart, plays cool and fights tough. The action is intense and the tension is high in these tales of anti-heroes, femme fatales and exciting heists. These four graphic novels are still available through IDW.
Join us as we take a look at the last works of Darwyn Cooke before his untimely death in 2016. Find out why these are truly great stories, retold using sequential art and the charm and charisma that only Darwyn could deliver to the page. It was the perfect project for Cooke and it shows on the page. If you love hard boiled stories where there’s no real good guy, you’ll love our dissection of Darwyn Cooke’s adaptations of Richard Stark’s Parker. Take a listen right now to the latest Back Issue Bloodbath.
