Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by  Kris Johnson. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

NEW LIEUTENANTS OF METAL #1 (OF 4) $3.99 (Image) – Joe Casey and Ulises Farinas join forces this week to introduce the world to the most headbanging strike force of thrash-infused bad-asses the world has ever seen: The Mighty Krieg, Vandenborg Riot, Manowarrior, and Steppenwulf! They’re here and they’re fixing to rock readers’ faces off with the most irreverent and fun comic you’re likely to read this week. Throw those horns in the air and pick this sucker up! (Kris)

CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 $4.99 (Marvel) – It’s the 4th of July! Is there a better day to release the first issue of the new Captain America series? I don’t think so. But Cap’s got a lot to deal with these days, including a bad reputation. How hard is it to protect a country when that country doesn’t trust you? Cap has to earn back that trust while dealing with a new threat: The Power Elite. Sounds like business is about to pick up with Ta-Nehisi Coates and Leinil Francis Yu at the helm. (Andrew)

BATMAN #50 $4.99 (DC Comics) – The wedding of Batman and Catwoman is finally here… aaaaand apparently it’s already been spoiled by the New York Times. People are pissed! I personally have not read the spoilers so I don’t know what folks are so up in arms about. As such, I will be picking this up come Wednesday to enjoy what is sure to be an important chapter in Tom King’s Bat-epic. Remember folks, King has planned this out as one massive 100 issue story, so we’re only at the halfway point. Enjoy the journey. (Kris)

LOWLIFES #1 $3.99 (IDW) – What do a crooked cop, a drug addict, a haunted thug, and a robbery at a mobster’s poker game have in common? They’re all intertwined in this seedy Los Angeles underworld tale of redemption and destruction. If you like stories about criminals and bad guys, this is right up your alley. (Andrew)

COSMIC GHOST RIDER #1 (OF 5) $3.99 (Marvel) – The Cosmic Ghost Rider from Donny Cates’s THANOS WINS is back in his very own series! But wait, didn’t he get a face full of Mjolnir, and, y’know, die again? Yes, of course. But now he’s been brought back in a manner that I’m sure won’t be completely insane or anything! Dylan Burnett applies his artistic greatness to the mind-bending visuals and Cates himself returns to pen the further adventures of his twisted creation. This could be the sleeper book of the week, friends. (Kris)

CATWOMAN #1 $3.99 (DC Comics) – Catwoman has to deal with a copycat that’s running around town. Selina’s also attracted the attention of the boys in blue. Sounds like Catwoman’s in for a long night in this first issue of her new series. What great about this one is that unlike Batman #50, this issue hasn’t been spoiled by the New York Times! (Andrew)

DARK ARK #8 $3.99 (Aftershock) – The Mother of Monsters has come and she’s calling to her dark children from the depths of the deluge. Will Shrae’s infernal powers allow him to maintain control over his charges? Or will the arks of both light and dark face certain destruction at the tentacles of eldritch might? (Kris)

PUNISHER: SHADOWMASTERS TP $39.99 (Marvel) – I know what you’re thinking. “Who in the Blue Hell are the Shadowmaster?” Back in the 80s, they were allies of the Punisher who were trained in the ways of the ninja. If you’re looking for cool stories involving mercenaries, criminals and the aforementioned ninja, this slice of nostalgia is what you’re looking for. This trade collects ALL of their appearances! I really hope this collection is a sign of a possible comeback.  (Andrew)

DEATH OF INHUMANS #1 (OF 5) $4.99 (Marvel) – Hey look! Another Donny Cates book! And even more exclamation points! This week is all about the exclamation points, ya’ll. Ariel Olivetti and Cates combine like Voltron for what may very well be the last Inhumans story. The Kree are pissed. They’ve absolutely had it with the Inhumans and their whole “acting of their own free will” bullshit. So they’ve decided to do something about it. Through the magic of subjugation and/or genocide! Of course, the mighty Black Bolt will have something to say about that. But will he survive the experience? The title of this book would seem to indicate not so much. (Kris)

BATMAN: THRILLKILLER TP NEW EDITION $16.99 (DC Comics) – Here’s another story from the past that’s FINALLY back in Print. This Elseworlds tale set in the swinging sixties shows us a Batman we’ve never seen before. Last month, we got the opportunity to chat with writer Howard Chaykin about his memories of the miniseries. We’ve also have an interview with artist Dan Brereton lined up for next week. Do yourself a favor and check this comic out. It’s a Batman title that I’m actually recommending. That means it MUST be good. (Andrew)

So there you go. That’s this week’s New Comics. Check these books out and let us know what you think. We’ll be back again next week with more choice cuts of comic goodness.

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
