Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by  Kris Johnson. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

LEVIATHAN #1 $3.99 (Image) – What’s worse than a giant, Godzilla-sized, city-smashing monster? Why a giant, Godzilla-sized, city-smashing monster… from HELL, of course! And it certainly doesn’t help matters when said monster has been accidentally summoned by a bunch of drunken party-boy assholes, either. Hopefully, those who should get eaten will get eaten and those who are virtuous will do a bunch of virtuous-ass things and save the innocent from a monstrous mushing. (Kris)

X-MEN: THE DARK PHOENIX SAGA OMNIBUS HC $100.00 (Marvel) – X-Fans rejoice! Your laps have the pleasure of being destroyed by this massive tome, collecting ALL issues of X-Men connected to The Dark Phoenix Saga. This book has it all. From Jean becoming Phoenix, to the showdown with the Hellfire Club, to the eventual battle on the Moon. Every angst-y moment! Plus, Phoenix: The Untold Story, back up stories from Classic X-Men and even a couple of What If? issues are all here as well. It truly is an omnibus worth celebrating. (Andrew)

DARK ARK #9 $3.99 (Aftershock) – The full might of Echidna, Mother of all Monsters, is unleashed as she declares war on Shrae’s Ark. We’ve seen Shrae as a powerful sorcerer and a pretty ruthless bad ass, but how can he hope to stop a legendary beast with the power to enthrall every monster he has on board? Things are about to get cranked up to eleven! And this is prehistory we’re talking about here. They haven’t event invented knobs yet. So that could mean anything! (Kris)

THE SEEDS #1 $3.99 (Dark Horse) – This is one of those cool Berger Books, from the imprint headed up by the woman who first brought us Vertigo, Karen Berger. And she’s got an equally cool long time comic writer heading this one up: Ann Nocenti. Add to that artwork by the amazing David Aja, and we’ve got a winner on our hands. So what’s the book about? It’s an eco-fiction tech-thriller where flora and fauna have begun to mutate. It’s also a story of love beyond race and gender, and of the resilience of both human and animal kind. Sounds like this book has it all. Hurry up and buy it, now! (Andrew)

DEATH OF INHUMANS #2 (OF 5) $3.99 (Marvel) – Could it be that all Marvel had to do to get me to finally give a shit about the Inhumans was to hire Donny Cates to kill them off? Yes, it appears so. Attilan has fallen to the might of Vox. While Black Bolt may wish for a moment of silence and solitude to mourn the loss of two beloved family members, he will not find it while the Kree’s newest instrument of destruction yet lives. The Silent King must stand and fight if he has any hope of saving his people. But can even the power of Black Bolt prevail against the otherworldly Vox? If history has shown us anything, it’s that skull-faced dudes with no eyes are not to be trifled with. (Kris)

THE SUIT GN $12.99 (Dark Horse) – In the cutthroat world of corporate mergers and hostile takeovers, one businessman, known only as The Suit, must fight dirty to stop his from going under. By “fight dirty” I mean shooting and killing the competition. Sounds reasonably enough. It’s just business after all. Originally printed in the pages of Dark Horse Presents, it’s collected in one graphic novel. Sweet. (Andrew)

COSMIC GHOST RIDER #2 (OF 5) $3.99 (Marvel) – Donny Cates has written a great many insane things during his relatively short amount of time creating comics in the mainstream. So I feel it carries some weight when I say that Cosmic Ghost Rider #1 was, perhaps, the most insane thing he’s ever written. I mean, at one point in that issue, Ghostie traveled back in time and literally punched baby Thanos in the face. ‘Nuff said, amirite? So, if you want to pick up a book this week that is not only the right kind of loopy, but is also filled with gorgeous artwork from the hands of the mighty Dylan Burnett, look no further than this baby right here, friends. (Kris)

CAPTAIN AMERICA #2 $3.99 (Marvel)Yes and all of the healers have been killed / Or sent away, yeah / But the people know, the people know / It’s winter / Winter in America. Captain America is in a tight spot. He wants to be out on the front lines, fighting back an army of Nuke soldiers with US flags tattooed to their faces. But the American people and the American government no longer trust him. That’s bound to happen when a dude with your face and name leads Hydra and takes over the whole damn country! Sure, he beat that guy, but he still looks like him. Like I said, Cap’s in a tight spot. (Andrew)

THE PAYBACKS TP $24.99 (Dark Horse) – If you haven’t figured it out yet, it’s Donny Cates Week, yo! Up next is this brand-new collected edition of Mr. Cates and Geoff Shaw’s pre-God Country collaboration, The Paybacks! Bringing together Dark Horse’s Vol 1 and Heavy Metal’s Vol 2, this beast of a book relays the whole tale of a repo squad assembled with the sole purpose of collecting debts incurred by deadbeats with super-powers… super-powers acquired with some extremely high interest loans. We all know crime doesn’t pay. With the Paybacks kicking around, neither does doing the right(ish) thing. (Kris)

ADVENTURES OF THE SUPER SONS #1 (OF 12) $3.99 (DC Comics) – The boys are back in town! And when I say “boys”, I mean the Super Sons. And when I say “town”, I mean a 12 issue maxi-series that flashes back to Damien and Jon first becoming friends. Turns out there’s this group of interstellar youngsters call The Gang that want to take ’em down! And when I say “The Gang”, I don’t mean Kool and The Gang. Robin and Superboy have got their hands full once again. Peter Tomasi, Carlo Barberi and Art Thibert are the ones filling those hands with plot and artwork. Thanks, guys! (Andrew)
