Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Sammy Younan as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
On this week’s Bloodbath, we take a look at social media and it’s affects on the comic industry and fandom. As readers of fantasy, most of us like our trolls to be in the pages of a mythical themed comic. These days, we have to deal with trolls of a different kind. These trolls pop up in our twitter feeds or post in our facebook groups. These are the “fans” that take their passion too far and lash out when they don’t get their way. They harass creators online, demanding they be fired or worse. This creates a hostile environment where those of us with constructive criticism get drowned out by the mean tweets and bad intentions of attention seekers.
Join Andrew and Sammy for a conversation about online etiquette where we discuss what’s appropriate for both fans and creators when posting on social media. Yes, there is talk about how some creators act or respond on the interwebs as well. Sammy even gets a bit introspective about his own actions (on this very podcast) that have lead to interesting twitter comments. If you’re looking for some fanboy analysis, you’ve come to the right place. It’s another Back Issue Bloodbath adventure.
