Originally Aired: 09/21/18 – Our review of The House with a Clock in its Walls. We also speak with filmmaker Roney also with podcaster Petula Neale about TIFF.

Show Notes:

We speak with filmmaker Roney, whose short film Glitter’s Wild Women screened at this year’s fest. The film had its World Premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Short Cuts Program. Roney will be on to chat about the film and her experience at the festival. Hailing from North Vancouver, B.C, Roney is an emerging filmmaker with an interesting education. She originally moved to Toronto in 2010 to play for the Ryerson Women’s Basketball team. She was accepted into the Television Program (RTA) at Ryerson and excelled creatively on projects both in front of and behind the camera. After graduating, she gave birth to a semi-autobiographical web-series project, Cheap Whine.

Our review of The House with a Clock in Its Walls starring Jack Black, Cate Blanchett and Owen Vaccaro. Ten-year-old Lewis goes to live with his oddball uncle in a creaky old house that contains a mysterious ticktock noise. He soon learns that Uncle Jonathan and his feisty neighbour, Mrs. Zimmerman, are powerful practitioners of the magic arts. When Lewis accidentally awakens the dead, the town’s sleepy facade suddenly springs to life — revealing a secret and dangerous world of witches, warlocks and deadly curses.

We also speak with in-studio Petula Neale, host of the non-TIFF-affiliated podcast IN A TIFF. Petula will be on hand to give her thoughts on the fest that was TIFF18 and tell us what were the best and worst films she saw. Be sure to listen this Friday to find out what excitement transpired at the Toronto International Film Festival.
