Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by  Kris Johnson. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

MURDER FALCON #2 $3.99 (Image) – Last issue, we witnessed Jake and the Murder Falcon join forces for the very first time. They also pledged to stand by each other, no matter what, in their mutual quest to destroy all evil through the righteous power of METAAAAAL! This month, the threats escalate as the city is overrun by more monsters than our two hard-rocking heroes can handle on their own! They need more power! They need more metal! They need someone to thrash a killer bassline!  (Kris)

UNCANNY X-MEN #1 $7.99 (Marvel) – It’s the return of the Uncanny Brand to the X-Men! Oh how we’ve missed this adjective. This series is kicking off with a bang! We got 10 issues coming your way over the next 10 weeks! Wha?!?!? Crazy, right? Check out the writing team on this thing: Ed Brisson, Matthew Rosenberg, and Kelly Thompson. All three have had success writing X-Men books. Combined, they make up one big super X-Brain built for writing the ultimate X-Adventure! All three as also former guests of Geek Hard. Not saying that’s a factor here….but it’s worth noting. (Andrew)

WILLIAM GIBSON’S ALIEN 3 #1 $3.99 (Dark Horse) – Hey! Ever wonder what Alien 3 would’ve been like if the studio hadn’t made the boneheaded decision to kill off Bishop, Newt, and Hicks before the credits finished rolling? Yeah? You have? Well, me fucking too. Listen, I love David Fincher. I even think the Alien 3 we got on the big screen has a number of redeeming qualities. But goddammit if it isn’t a joyless slog for a large chunk of the running time. As such, it’s with great joy that I’ll be picking up this new series adapting the unused Alien 3 screenplay penned by the godfather of modern cyberpunk, William Gibson. He was the first man to take a crack at writing a sequel to Aliens way back in 1987. While the two drafts he wrote have been readily available on the interwebs for quite some time, I’ve always felt they deserved to be brought to life in some visual medium. Thankfully, Dark Horse Comics agrees with me and tapped Johnnie Christmas to supply the kick ass art that brings the tale to life. So, if you’ve been itching for some egg-laying, face-hugging, chest-bursting action, be sure to visit your LCS on Wednesday to get your xenomorph fix. (Kris)

BITTER ROOT #1 $3.99 (Image) – In 1920s Harlem, only a family of monster hunters can save New York from all the bad things that go bump in the night. But it’s not as easy as it used to be. There have been deaths. Some of the family have a different moral compass. Fighting monsters is not all black and white. There’s a big gray area that might lead to the ones in the shadows getting their way. The Power Man and Iron First team of David Walker and Sanford Greene team up with indie comics veteran Chuck Brown to bring you a tale of thrills, chills and family dysfunction. Sounds like a grand ol’ time. (Andrew)

COSMIC GHOST RIDER #5 (OF 5) $3.99 (Marvel) – The comic-that-should-not-be-but-totally-is-and-thank-Galactus-for-that is back for one final, batshit insane chapter before closing out one of the most loony tunes comic series released by a mainstream publisher this year or any other. Donny Cates and Dylan Burnett have done an amazing job crafting an intriguing, action packed, viscerally illustrated, and surprisingly emotionally affecting comic starring a character that really has no right to work as well as it does. It’s an achievement, dammit. I’m glad you’re here with me to enjoy it. (Kris)

CATWOMAN #5 $3.99 (DC Comics) – If you’re a regular listener of Geek Hard, you already know that Joelle Jones is writing and drawing a damn fine Catwoman comic. Joelle says her overall plan is to tear Selina Kyle down so she can build her back up in grand fashion. Looks like we’re still in the tearing down phase as Selina has been framed for murder and her secret hideout has done got blown up! She’s in the slammer with creeps that want to kill her. Is she gonna make a deal with her new nemesis to stay alive? We’ll find out this Wednesday. (Andrew)

DARK ARK #11 $3.99 (Aftershock) – If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to jump on this series, now is that time. This issue marks the beginning of a new storyarc for the Dark Ark and all of its horrific inhabitants! The rains have stopped but the world remains drowned in the floodwaters. While the immediate dangers of the deluge have seemingly decreased, that is a small comfort when the dangers inherent in sharing an enclosed space with every thing that has ever gonna bump in the night remain. The Sorcerer Shrae has been able to maintain a tenuous control over the monsters under his care until now. But when it appears as though one of them has afflicted his grandson with a supernatural ailment, will he be able to control himself? I’m leaning towards “nah”. (Kris)

LUKE CAGE MPGN TP EVERY MAN $19.99 (Marvel) – Check out my review of this graphic novel printing of this digital first comic HERE! It’s good reading. (Andrew)

THE TERRIBLE ELISABETH DUMN AGAINST THE DEVILS IN SUITS ONE-SHOT $5.99 (Image) – As a young man, Elisabeth Dumn’s father made a deal with the devil. The price to be paid?  Elisabeth herself. Today, the Satan has decided it’s time to collect. Unfortunately for the fallen one, Elisabeth ain’t having any of that shit. Beautifully illustrated and written by Brazilian artist Arabson and translated by James Robinson, this oversized one-shot is sure to look and feel unlike anything else on the comic shelf this week. Don’t miss out. (Kris)

MISTER MIRACLE #12 (OF 12) $3.99 (DC Comics) – Last year, this book was included on my Ten Best Comics of 2017 list. This year, the book is still kicking ass. Now it comes to an end with this issue. There are questions that need to be answered. Is Scott’s appointment as the Highfather of New Genesis real? Did he escape death back in issue 1? Is this his beautiful wife? Is this his beautiful house? Same as it ever was….or was it? Find out the answers to these questions and more in the final issue of Mister Miracle. (Andrew)
