Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Sammy Younan as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
This week, we bring you another episode recorded ON THE ROAD. Andrew and Sammy were guests at the Whitby Comic Arts Festival (#WhitCAF) on Saturday, November 17th, at the Whitby Public Library. Surrounded by some amazing indie comic creators as well as a plethora of comic fans, it seemed like the perfect place to record a creator spotlight episode. This time around, they look at the works of the one and only Roger Stern.
Not too many creators can boast being a driving creative force for both Spider-Man and Superman. Roger Stern has that honor. Writing some of the most famous and beloved stories starring Peter Parker, like Nothing Can Stop The Juggernaut and The Kid Who Collected Spider-Man, Stern defined Spidey in the 1980s. Then in the 90s, he moved over to the Distinguished Competition and wrote iconic tales for The Man of Tomorrow. He even had a hand in killing the guy!
For some creators, that would be enough to hang your hat on. But Stern also had memorable runs on Captain America and The Avengers to boot. He’s also had some amazing collaborations with the likes of John Byrne and Kurt Busiek. A legend of the comic industry, Roger Stern’s contributions to the medium are still loved and respected by fans to this day. Join Andrew and Sammy as they look back on the works of Roger Stern.
