Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Sammy Younan as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
Happy Holidays, folks! We’re just a few days away from Christmas, so it seems like the perfect time to get in the spirit with a Christmas-themed comic. There are some that don’t usually like Holiday-themed comics (Sammy). They find them too touchy-feely and not enough kicky-punchy. For them, we present the perfect comic to fill their needs while still bringing the feels. This also happens to be a comic where Santa is total bad-ass. The comic in question is Klaus from Boom Studios.
Written by Grant-Fuckin-Morrison and drawn by Dan Mora, Klaus is Santa Claus Year One! Released as a miniseries through 2015 and 2016, it tells the origin story of Klaus. Here’s the official Boom Synopsis:
He’s a myth. A legend. He’s loved worldwide by children and adults alike . . . but does anyone truly know the origins of Santa Claus? Set in a dark fantastic past of myth and magic, Klaus tells the origin story of Santa Claus. It’s the tale of one man and his wolf against a totalitarian state and the ancient evil that sustains it.
Find out what Sammy thinks of one of Andrew’s favourite comics starring the world’s most famous toy-maker. It’s the perfect way to pass the time while you wait for Santa land on your roof and come down your chimney.
