Originally Aired: 12/07/18 – Our annual Christmas show featuring Alex James and a look at Christmas movies, comics and TV shows

Show Notes:

That’s right friends, the season is upon us! It’s time for the Geek Hard Christmas Special!

We start off with the return of our favourite holiday punching bag – Alex James, in studio for the whole show. He will be performing later in the show but first, we have to beat him up a little. Like we said he’s our favourite holiday punching bag!

Our annual tradition of the Great Christmas Movie Swap! continues. Where we each give the other a Christmas movie the other hasn’t watched for the first time and then we review it. Mr. Green reviews A Christmas Without Snow (chosen by Andrew) released by CBS Studios starring Michael Learned, John Houseman and Ramon Bieri. Leaving her son behind at her parents’ home in Omaha, Neb., recent divorcée Zoe (Michael Learned) attempts to start her life anew by moving to San Francisco. Seeking something to fill her lonely hours, she begins singing with a church choir. When new choirmaster Ephraim Adams (John Houseman) is hired, Zoe finds his attitudes and ideas difficult to tolerate. Faced with the challenging task of satisfying Adams’ unrelenting perfectionism, Zoe is tempted once more to run away from her problems. While Andrew reviews El Camino Christmas (chosen by Mr. Green) released by Netflix starring Dax Shepard, Kurtwood Smith and Luke Grimes. A young man seeking the father he has never met ends up barricaded inside of a liquor store with five other people on Christmas Eve.

We, of course, continue the tradition of forcing Mr. Green to read Christmas themed comics. This year Andrew has chosen Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Vol 1 #10 written by Gary Friedrich & Frank Springer with art by Frank Springer, Barry Smith & Johnny Craig. Goon #10 written by Eric Powell with art by Eric Powell. Ant-Man’s Big Christmas Vol 1 #1 written Bob Gale with art by Phil Winslade, Jimmy Palmiotti & Richard Isanove! While Mr. Green likes comics he is not a fan of Christmas themed comics and Andrew continues’ his campaign to make Green like them.

Of course, no Christmas show would be complete without our annual checking out of Christmas specials and hitting some television specials from the past. Eureka – Do You See What I See, Goldbergs – A Christmas Story and Supernatural – A Very Supernatural Christmas Christmas episodes.

Lastly, no Geekmas would be complete without Alex James taking part in another of Geek Hard’s time honoured traditions: Alex James Christmas Trivia. For the past 7 years running, we have subjected Alex to an embarrassing trivia quiz that shows off how much of a humbug this guy really is. If you’ve never heard the quiz before, you’re in for a treat. For those that have, the good times continue.

The Geek Hard Christmas Stocking winner is announced. Congratulations! Ben Leonard of Whitby, Ontario.

Plus, the debut of Geek Hard’s 2018 Christmas song “Green Christmas” performed by Andrew Young and musical accompaniment by Alex James.
