Hey not sure what to watch this week on the small screen? No worries #SetTheVCR is here to help you make some of those decisions easier. Each week Sammy Younan and I will give you our picks for each day of the coming week.
Sure you have your old favourites on standby that never changes. But maybe you are looking to freshen it up this week. If that’s the case then let us help you. All times are Eastern Standard Time so please adjust for your time zone.
Ah, January! While the rest of us plan resolutions, sign up for gym memberships, repair relationships…our media doesn’t typically inspire the first month of every year…on television and at the movies. You’d think with all this winter we’d have many excellent television reasons to stay indoors but no!
Sunday, January 6
UFO Cover Ups: Secrets Revealed (9pm / History Channel) – It’s strange how the History Channel is running all these cool aliens specials and tv shows this week when July 2nd is World UFO Day. Maybe start watching now and raise your awareness so come July 2nd you know what to expect. (Sammy)
God Friended Me (
Monday, January 7
The Clemson Tigers vs The Crimson Tide of Alabama (5 pm / ESPN) – It’s the College Football Playoff National Championship from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. I ah…I don’t know anything about college football. But as I watch ESPN for NBA highlights I’ve often seen spectacular moments from Alabama’s quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. This kid is amazing (Alabama was outscoring opponents 588 to 165 this season…that’s crazy talk!) and to play on in National Championship game…yo I expect big things. (Sammy)
Ancient Aliens (9pm / History) – This long-running show that has sparked several memes over the years has a new episode tonight. They talk of course about the return to Mars. I can’t imagine this being anything less than entertaining for me and the most serious of broadcast TV for those who are deep into this idea. Regardless, Monday has pretty weak offerings tonight so this was the best I could find. (Mr. Green)
Tuesday, January 8
Project Blue Book (10 pm/ History Channel) – Let’s stick with aliens and the History Channel! Project Blue Book is a new drama series inspired by the U.S. Air Force’s secret investigation into the UFO phenomenon in the 1950s and ’60s. Executive Produced by Robert Zemeckis, shot in Vancouver…oh hopefully this is gonna be my new X-Files! (Sammy)
WWE Smackdown! (8pm / USA) – I was just talking about this a couple of days ago. For the first time in over a decade, I am interested in watching wrestling again. And, it is 100% because of THE MAN aka Becky Lynch. Over the holidays with nothing to do I started to see her popping up everywhere in my timelines. Everything and I mean EVERYTHING, I have seen from/about her so far makes me want to watch. Maybe it’s time for you also come back or start watching for the first time. (Mr. Green)
Wednesday, January 9
Solo: A Star Wars Story (
The Goldbergs (
Thursday, January 10
Roswell: Mysteries Decoded (9pm / The CW) – Roswell, Jimmy Hoffa, D. B. Cooper…something clearly happened and yet these mysteries have become eternal and cling to our imaginations. I’m not expecting The CW to reveal the truth (which I’ve been assured is out there!) but at least let’s review what we know to be true and work from there. (Sammy)
Brooklyn Nine-Nine (9pm / NBC) – Take note of the NEW TIME / CHANNEL for B99 returning to our airwaves after FOX cancelled it at the end of last season. Jake and Amy get a major honeymoon upgrade, but their time in paradise is derailed by an unexpected guest… I’m really hoping it’s who I think it is. Because if it’s not Doug Judy I’m going to burn this mother down. (Mr. Green)
Friday, January 11
Future Man (Hulu) – So a) I didn’t know there was, a
The Last Laugh (
Saturday, January 12
Nothing! – It is Saturday night…maybe time to find The One? She’s out there…all lonely just waiting for your touch. Or join Mr. Green and watch an NFL game…I did start out by recommending a college football game. Hopefully he has chicken wings! (Sammy)
NFC Divisional Playoff Game RAMS Vs. TBD (
Well, there you go plenty of options for the week ahead. Enjoy yourself and watch responsibly.
If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
