Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by  Kris Johnson. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

YOUNG JUSTICE #2 $3.99 (DC Comics) – Full disclosure: I was not that big a fan of the first issue. I just think Gemworld sucks, okay? In my grand hierarchy of comic book concepts that I find to be lame, the fantasy realm lands somewhere between “quite” and “astronomically”. Buuuuuut there was enough fun characterization and beautiful artwork in the Young Justice relaunch to keep me coming back for more. Add in the fact that Superboy has returned rocking some classic threads and I’m willing to give this book another whirl. Wow me, Bendis and Gleason. Wow me. (Kris)

DAREDEVIL #1 $4.99 (Marvel) – Hey, lookit that! The Man Without Fear has a new series! And it’s written by a man who wrote some SPECTACULAR Spider-Man stories in the past (and is a friend of Geek Hard’s), Chip Zdarsky! Not only that, but it’s also drawn by the fantastic Marco Checchetto! Based on the capable hands working on the book, sounds to me like we’ve got a winner on our hands. If you like good comics, pick up this book. (Andrew)

GUNHAWKS #1 $3.99 (Marvel) – A classic Marvel Western title gets dusted off in celebration of The House of Ideas 80th anniversary. Given that I already love Westerns as a genre and have sacrificed all of my spare time to the Red Dead Redemption 2 gods, my body is ready. Written by David and Maria Lapham with some grimy and gorgeous art from Luca Pizzari, this offering looks perfectly positioned to scratch a very particular itch. (Kris)

RED SONJA #1 $3.99 (Dynamite) – It’s time for another bad-ass #1! I know, you’ve just read about two #1s coming your way and there’s still two more to come before this column is done. But this is the only #1 that’s all metal and blood! If you have a problem that involves a conqueror with a massive army and a fatal prophecy as well as a bastard sorceress out for revenge, if no one else can help, and if you can find her, maybe you can hire Red Sonja! (Andrew)

CONAN THE BARBARIAN #3 $3.99 (Marvel)The Life and Death of Conan continues to slice and dice it’s way into all of our hearts. The Crimson Witch continues her campaign to kill her some Cimmerian Barbarian while we get a glimpse into Conan’s teen years with a tale detailing an arrest for thievery and a sentence of death. Jason Aaron and Mahmud Asrar are bringing the action and adventure with this series. So if you’re looking for something to get the blood pumping this Wednesday, check this book out, by Crom! (Kris)

THE GIRL IN THE BAY #1 $3.99 (Dark Horse) – Kathy’s been having a heck of a time. She was attack and thrown into Sheepshead Bay. She should have died. She didn’t. But when she made it back to the surface, 50 years had passed and a doppelganger lived an entire life in her place. That’s gotta be a bummer. Worse yet, now she has to confront the faker, face the men who murdered her and figure out all the new-fangled gadgets and fashions of current times. Those first two are hard….but when you add in the third, I don’t know if I’d be up for the challenge. (Andrew)

OBERON #1 $3.99 (Aftershock) – The king of the faeries gets booted from his throne by a young upstart and is exiled to the human realm. Instead of picking himself up and getting a real job (like a functioning adult), he decides instead to manipulate a young girl into helping him sneak back into faerie land and reclaim his throne. Schoolwork be damned! If anyone’s trustworthy, it’s someone willing to take advantage of small children. That’s what I always say! Oh, and don’t trust faeries! They’re really big dicks. (Kris)

CHAMPIONS #2 $3.99 (Marvel) – Issue #2 of the relaunched series is here! In it, a hero must make a decision that will shake the foundations of the team and nothing will ever be the same again. Sounds like a good time to me. We used to have these life-shattering decisions all the time in comics. These days, not so much. So I look forward to the fallout from this sacrifice. I also look forward to chatting with Champions writer Jim Zub this Friday. I’ve got lots to look forward to. (Andrew)

AVENGERS #14 $3.99 (Marvel) – There’s a vampire civil war brewing and, aside from Cap, the current batch of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes don’t have much in the way of experience with the creatures of the night. So what’s a forward thinking Avengers chairman like Black Panther gonna about it? Recruit the greatest vampire the MCU has ever known to stop the whole damn thing before it gets started, of course! That’s right, peeps. This week, mutherfuggin’ BLADE joins the team and it doesn’t really get much cooler than that. Prepare for one liners, lots of stabby-stabby, and a shit ton of black leather. (Kris)

UNCANNY X-MEN #11 $7.99 (Marvel) – One liners, stabby-stabby and black leather? Sounds like my last girlfriend. (She was working through some stuff…..She’s alright now.) Anyways, Uncanny X-Men #11 brings on a whole new era! Cyclops and Wolverine are back! What’s even better is that Matthew Rosenberg wrote it and he was the winner of Geek Hard’s Golden Grant award. This issue comes out on his birthday. Celebrate the birth of a fantastic man by buying his comic! (Andrew)

So there you go. That’s this week’s New Comics. Check these books out and let us know what you think. We’ll be back next week with more choice cuts of comic goodness.

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
