Hey not sure what to watch this week on the small screen? No worries #SetTheVCR is here to help you make some of those decisions easier. Each week Sammy Younan and I will give you our picks for each day of the coming week. Please note – enjoyment NOT guaranteed.

Sure you have your old favourites on standby that never change. But maybe you are looking to freshen it up this week. If that’s the case then let us help you. All times are Eastern Standard Time so please adjust for your time zone.

Sunday, February 10

The Walking Dead (9pm / AMC) – If you didn’t hear any buzz about Walking Dead’s return it’s because it was Whispered… (Sammy)

The 61st Annual Grammy Awards (8pm / CBS) – Award shows at this time of year is just a fact. Whether you like or not this is the world we live in. So you can watch TWD or this. Personally, I think the Grammy’s will be WAY better than another season of TWD. Of course i’m biased here. (Mr. Green)

Monday, February 11

Studio 54 (10pm / A&E) – Hope you’re ready to start your week with some disco! Or at least a documentary on the iconic (infamous?) night club…I didn’t know for example that Studio 54 lasted only 33 months, from 1978 to 1980. Sucker made a lotta noise and had an impact for a short run. You may have already heard about this doc…it premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and played at a number of film festivals, including the Tribeca Film Festival, AFI Docs. Super excited it’s finished its film festival run and is now on tv. (Sammy)

Grave Mysteries (9pm / ID) – Murderino’s rejoice there is always another episode of someones murder/disappearance to be solved on TV these days. This one has a mother who disappears with only a Myspace message saying she is off to find herself. I’m pretty sure we all know how this will end but I’m sure there are a few twists along the way. (Mr. Green)

Tuesday, February 12

Miracle Workers (10:30pm / TBS) – You’ll not only recognize faces in front of the camera…the Harry Potter dude, the Deadpool cabbie and Steve Buscemi but behind the camera as well like producer Lorne Michaels: the SNL guy. Basically, Miracle Workers is Bruce Almighty as a tv show: as you can see from the trailer you get the overwhelming prayer metaphor. And Scene. (Sammy)

The Rookie (10pm / ABC) – After Nathan Fillion’s characters’ marriage breaks up he leaves the comfort of his construction business and the Mid-West for the sunny weather of L.A. There he starts a journey to become a LAPD officer at 40. Loosely based on a true story the show is your usual hokum but is quite a fun ride each week. (Mr. Green)

Wednesday, February 13

Weird City (YouTube Premium) – “Weird City takes place “in the not-too-distant future metropolis of Weird. Each episode is an exploration of issues that pertain to present-day life, stories that could only be told now through the prism of sci-fi and comedy.” Eh sure: think of it as a warm-up for Jordan Peele’s Twilight Zone. Weird City has a weird cast too: Ed O’Neill, Rosario Dawson, Michael Cera and LeVar Burton. Alright. (Sammy)

Big Brother: Celebrity Edition (9pm / CBS – The latest edition of the Big Brother franchise comes a close tonight. I’m sure all the fans of the show are getting viewing parties together and getting ready to collect their money on all of their bets they placed on this go-round. Reality TV is not for everyone but sometimes you need the escape. (Mr. Green)

Thursday, February 14

Ken Jeong: You Complete Me, Ho (3am / Netflix) – Ken Jeong aka Mr. Chow has a Netflix comedy special. Ummm is he stand up funny? Hangover movies are one thing – standup comedy is an entirely different beast to tame. We shall see. You Complete Me, Ho is out today so you can Netflix and chill… (Sammy)

The Titan Games (8pm / NBC) – A little counterprogramming for the evening. While many will be enjoying an evening of romance or failed romance there are many who are not partaking. Take a chance on some testosterone in the show from Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson. Sure it may still not be for you but it’s better than most other things you could be doing alone. Okay well I guess there is PornHub – but this is a PG post. 😉 (Mr. Green)

Friday, February 15

Doom Patrol (Midnight / DC Universe) – I enjoyed Titans the DC universe show. I’m grateful DC went hard R or whatever it is when it’s tv. Finally! So I’m excited to check out Doom Patrol…though I’ve never read the comics. Their appearance in Titans was in an episode penned by Geoff Johns and it worked well. An appearance is one thing…week in and week out? Let’s find out…I got time…Swamp Thing is supposed to be coming in May. That better be good green rucks. Stargirl drops in August…that sounds too cheezy I’ll probably be out; I don’t need a trailer and then Harley Quinn in November which looks intriguing. (Sammy)

The Umbrella Academy (3am / Netflix) – I am currently watching the show to prepare for Geek Hard’s review Friday night. So I won’t get into the weeds on this but this is a show that I have been eagerly waiting for since they announced it. I was a BIG fan of the original comic and I’m looking forward to many other people getting onboard this story. (Mr. Green)

Saturday, February 16

I got nothing…you got anything Mr. Green? (Sammy)

Saturday Night Live! (11:29pm / NBC) – Don’t expect this to be a habit since I haven’t really liked much of SNL since the Not Ready for Primetime Players. This week has guest host Don Cheadle with musical guest Gary Clark Jr. At least it’s better than nothing if you are stuck at home tonight. (Mr. Green)

Well, there you go plenty of options for the week ahead. Enjoy yourself and watch responsibly.

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
