Hey not sure what to watch this week on the small screen? No worries #SetTheVCR is here to help you make some of those decisions easier. Each week Sammy Younan and I will give you our picks for each day of the coming week. Please note – enjoyment NOT guaranteed.
Sure you have your old favourites on standby that never change. But maybe you are looking to freshen it up this week. If that’s the case then let us help you. All times are Eastern Standard Time so please adjust for your time zone.
I’ve got 2 PBS recommendations… every man has a price and apparently I Like Big Books I Cannot Lie tote bag is mine?

Minding the Gap (9pm / PBS) – Many people have been recommending this skater slash boyhood documentary to me… just last week George Stroumboulopoulos praised the doc’s powerful storytelling for an Academy Award which I know doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things (it’s up against RBG another solid doc… not sure when the Oscars are but I wouldn’t be surprised if RBG takes it!). (Sammy)
Manifest (10pm / NBC) – Season finale for this show that started out strong but has petered out over the last few months in the ratings. Right now it stands on the edge of renew or cancel at NBC. With the type of concept that it has it’s no wonder it is struggling with mainstream audiences. Shows like this usually need a season or two to find their footing with average viewers. Hopefully if enough watch tonight it could give NBC the jolt they need to renew for a second season. (Mr. Green)

American Masters: Sammy Davis, Jr.: I’ve Gotta Be Me (
WWE Smackdown LIVE! (8pm / USA) – The Becky Lynch storyline continues to be one of the best things on TV right now. Plus last week saw New Day’s Koffi Kingston run the Gauntlet and last 55 mins in a surprise substitution for the match. Last week on RAW! Becky was suspended by Vince and replaced by Charlotte in the main event at Wrestlemania. If they ruin this match with a Triple Threat match instead of the possible historic match it could be, I’ll quit. Getting back to the suspension angle, some of the best wrestling has taken place during a wrestlers suspension and subsequent breaking the rules to interfere in other matches/storylines. Which of course, fits perfectly in the Lynch angle right now. (Mr. Green)

Desus & Mero (11pm/ Showtime) – I dunno who Desus & Mero is. Do you? Let’s find out together. (Sammy)

This Giant Beast That is the Global Economy (Amazon Prime) – Kal Penn is your guide and Will Ferrell is your producer and Adam McKay is your director and together they’ll magically reveal This Giant Beast That Is the Global Economy a new 8 docu-series featuring many celebrities and many specialists. If you watched the Big Short it’s gonna be like that. (Sammy)
Saturday, February 23
Nothing – I was gonna recommend O.G. on HBO but then it turned out it’s not an Ice-T doc. How disappointing. (Sammy)
Bad Boys (6:50pm / BET) – I love this movie always have. Since there is usually very little on a Saturday night why check out this fun ride with Martin Lawrence and Wil Smith before you roll out to the clubs, bars or whatever else you might have going on. A perfect way to get the juices running before enjoying a night on the town. (Mr. Green)
Well, there you go plenty of options for the week ahead. Enjoy yourself and watch responsibly.
If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
