Hey not sure what to watch this week on the small screen? No worries #SetTheVCR is here to help you make some of those decisions easier. Each week Sammy Younan and I will give you our picks for each day of the coming week. Please note – enjoyment NOT guaranteed.

Sure you have your old favourites on standby that never change. But maybe you are looking to freshen it up this week. If that’s the case then let us help you. All times are Eastern Standard Time so please adjust for your time zone.

All Killer and No Filler is not how I’d describe this week of tv. Rather the opposite.

Sunday, February 24th

Nothing! – I ain’t watching the Oscars…haven’t in like a decade or more? So I’ll point out Amazon Prime has picked up Defenders of the Earth: the song title features lyrics by Stan Lee. Excellent cartoon series. (Sammy)

The Oscars (8pm / ABC) – Like Sammy said I don’t watch either anymore. The ceremony has not become fun to watch for me. When 90% of the winners can be safely picked a month or two in advance it lost its lustre. Unless of course a miracle happens and Black Panther wins tonight shocking much of the world. However, it’s the only thing on TV tonight as every other channel cowers from this ratings juggernaut. (Mr. Green)

Monday, February 25th

Elvis Goes There (10pm / Epix) – It’s the season finale of Elvis Goes There. Host Elvis Mitchell talks shop with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro in LA. This mini-series had Elvis talking to a filmmaker in a city: Sofia Coppola (Paris!), Paul Feig (London!), Ryan Coogler (Oakland!) and now del Toro in LA. Hoping there’s some sweet footage of his rain room in his Bleak House. (Sammy)

The Enemy Within (10pm / NBC)NEW SHOW ALERT! NBC is going back to the well for a variation of The Blacklist concept. In this former CIA agent who betrayed her country is released from prison to help the FBI stop a major threat on US soil. The twist in this is that she is actually betrayed the US to save her daughter but that lead to an attack that killed many. So unlike Red on Blacklist, she is actually a good person at heart. The 10pm timeslot bods well for the show hopefully they have some excellent writing to separate it from its progenitors. (Mr. Green)

Tuesday, February 26th

Nothing! – This week sucks. You gotta hang on until Friday. (Sammy)

The Gifted (9pm / FOX) – Spun out of the X-universe of mutants the show comes to a season end tonight and possibly for the series. The ratings have not been kind this year down 40% in the key demos. On a network that is notorious for cancelling shows, especially genre shows the signs are on the wall. Plus with the upcoming Disney merger we could start to see the jettisoning of potential dead weight. Didn’t need Cerebro to see this coming. (Mr. Green)

Wednesday, February 27th

Alien News Desk (11pm / Syfy) – You really gonna sit through Alien News Desk with voices by Will Forte and Heidi Gardner? Eh…wait for Friday. (Sammy)

Whiskey Cavalier (10pm / ABC)NEW SHOW ALERT! ABC also tips there toes in the new show pool this week with the latest entry into the workplace romance with a twist. The team and comedy vibe mixed with action feels very much like Chuck but with a more logical starting point. I loved Chuck but it was very whacky throughout it’s run. I like the cast so I’m hopeful that it turns out to be a good show. (Mr. Green)

Thursday, February 28th

Nothing! – It’s not Friday yet… 1 more sleep! (Sammy)

Good Eats: Reloaded (9pm / Cooking Channel) – Alton is relaunching Good Eats this year with new episodes of his now famous classic cooking show. Which featured Alton demonstrating recipes while using sketches and skits to humorously explain the process for viewers. In Reloaded he is taking old shows that he thought needed a refresh to certain elements before he could start on the relaunched Good Eats shows. It’s wacky, goofy fun with food. (Mr. Green)

Friday, March 1st

Loser (Netflix) – In the NBA it’s called a court of a reason: there is a verdict issued at the end of every game. Netflix’s latest documentary is Loser and deals with crushing defeat. It could easily be a documentary on this week’s tv offerings! (Sammy)

Animal Cribs (9pm / Animal Planet) – How have I never heard of this show before? Take a home design show mixed with animal-specific design and you got this gem. Having watched some of the show recently I can’t recommend it enough, especially if you are an animal lover. These builds are really great to see how they help both the humans and the animals have a better life. (Mr. Green)

Saturday, March 2nd

Nothing! – I got nothing. Bruce couldn’t find anything to watch with 57 Channels…we’re not doing much better in the streaming era. (Sammy)

Nothing!– Sammy finally wore me down. I have to admit there is nothing good airing tonight. So if you are all caught up on your other shows I would suggest checking out a board game or some other human-related activity instead of just watching TV. Give yourself a brief respite from the screen. Because we are right back at it next week again. (Mr. Green)

Well, there you go plenty of options for the week ahead. Enjoy yourself and watch responsibly.

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
