Hey not sure what to watch this week on the small screen? No worries #SetTheVCR is here to help you make some of those decisions easier. Each week Sammy Younan and I will give you our picks for each day of the coming week. Please note – enjoyment NOT guaranteed.

Sure you have your old favourites on standby that never change. But maybe you are looking to freshen it up this week. If that’s the case then let us help you. All times are Eastern Standard Time so please adjust for your time zone.

This week Mr. Green and I succumb to Madness. May affect you as well… by Thursday you’ll be seeing double.

Sunday, March 17

Leprechaun Returns (Syfy / 9pm) – It’s Saint Patrick’s Day! Yeah, s’all I got. This is the 8th Leprechaun movie!! (In 4 he/it was in space… 5 and 6 he/it was in the hood.) It’s hard to justify how this Leprechaun franchise has lasted this long… must be lucky. (Sammy)

The Case Against Adnan Syed (9pm / HBO) – I was a huge fan of the original season Serial where they delved into Adnan’s case. While that show has it’s own issues this case continues to be fascinating to many around the world. This 4-part HBO documentary series explores the case to give it their own spin on the story. If you like true crime then this is especially for you. (Mr. Green)

Monday, March 18

Punk (10pm / Epix) – On a recent Geek Hard Extra I mispronounced the channel name: EPIX. I however did not apologize for that. And that my friends is punk. Also The Ramones who are in this episode. (Sammy)

Black Lightning (9pm / CW)FINALE! Season 2 comes to close as the stakes get ever higher for our heroes. This show continues to put out the typical CW fare but it continues to impress me with how much it makes me care for the characters even with some of the CW tropes that are present. No worries about it coming back next season as The CW already renewed it for next year. (Mr. Green)

Tuesday, March 19

The Jim Jefferies Show (10:30pm / Comedy Central) – I’ve never watched The Jim Jefferies Show. I wasn’t all that familiar with who the comic was until I saw his latest Netflix special: This Is Me Now. It’s an amazing and super insightful kind of comedy bed that springs from human foibles. Mocking the truth is easy; doing that and being funny is gold! I’ll watch his show for an episode or two just to see how well he can destruct more human beings and the inconsistent things we do. (Sammy)

Mental Samurai (9pm / FOX) – I had no idea what this is but the title alone got me curious. It appears to be a trivia game show to test your speed and accuracy when answering questions. Like I said I don’t care if this is any good I just dig the title and sometimes that enough to get me to watch anything – at least once. After checking out the trailer I’m even more intrigued by this craziness. That set is right out of The Running Man. (Mr. Green)

Wednesday, March 20

Nothing! – Earlier this week I recommended a Leprechaun movie so I won’t be mean and double down by recommending Step Up: High Water: Season 2 which premieres on YouTube today. Unlike Mr. Green who confidently suggests Pretty Little Lairs. Safe to say who is your pretty little friend this week huh? (Sammy)

Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists (8pm / Freeform) – The premise of this show seems a little too on point with the recent Lori Loughlin college scandal in the news. At least, in reality, no one has been murdered… yet. Who knows the real world mystery might take some dark turns to murder. So far they seem to be willing to do anything to get their kids in school, honestly, at this point, I forget if was talking about the show or the real world again. Ugh, it’s all too meta. (Mr. Green)

Thursday, March 21

March Madness (Many / Various) – NCAA college basketball is the appetizer for the NBA playoffs next month (as well as the trailer for next season’s NBA in the drafts.) The 68-team single-elimination tournament is 67 games over 19 days, hence the nickname March MadnessThat link will take you to all the dates and times for the tournament. Which sadly is not to the death… do we do that anymore? (Sammy)

March Madness (7pm / CBS) – It’s that time of year again. The basketball nerds are in full force for the biggest tournament not called the NBA Finals. Under compensated student-athletes play and make major cash for the schools, CBS and clothing companies while they are not allowed to be fairly compensated for that work. It’s a rigged system that needs to be overhauled in reality, but if you like ball then this is one the best, purest forms of it each year. (Mr. Green)

Friday, March 22

Highway Men (Netflix) – Old timey Triple Frontier. Netflix gives us ruckus with tommyguns and outlaws. I’m in! (Sammy)

The Dirt (3am / Netflix) – The apparently true story of Motley Crue. Based on the book of the same name that was unauthorized by the band so we can take the “true” only so far. It looks to try and add to the ever growing band movies that are out there these days. Bohemian Rhapsody most likely has stirred up the waters for more films in the near future. I’m sure The Dirt will contribute readily to the feeding frenzy the audience has been whipped up for. Plus Crue fans will watch regardless of quality anyway. No Dr. Feelgood required here, at least not yet. (Mr. Green)

Saturday, March 23

Nothing – It’s Saturday night…it should be warmer so go out there and shake what ya mamma gave you. (Sammy)

The Mummy (7pm / AMC) – This movie is a ton of fun. Since there is usually nothing on Saturdays this is your best choice. Brendan Fraser before his Hollywood disappearance doing his squared-jawed best against Fleshy Imhotep! The franchise is diminishing returns as you go so watch this one and call it a night. (Mr. Green)

Well, there you go plenty of options for the week ahead. Enjoy yourself and watch responsibly.

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
