Hey not sure what to watch this week on the small screen? No worries #SetTheVCR is here to help you make some of those decisions easier. Each week Sammy Younan and I will give you our picks for each day of the coming week. Please note – enjoyment NOT guaranteed.
All times are Eastern Standard Time so please adjust for your time zone.
On March 1st, 2019 Netflix added The Notebook. I envy the main character in that movie who gets to forget he’s in such a crappy movie… thankfully Mr. Green and I have returned just like the Notebook to save you from movies like that with all kinds of dynamic tv watching excellence. Oh and also classics like Space Jam.
Sunday, March 3
The Simpsons (8pm / Fox) – Episode number 654 stars Guillermo del Toro as himself. Del Toro has a good time on The Simpsons; his work has appeared a few times on the show so this should be fun. Please skip the whole trite preamble I haven’t watched the show in years; is The Simpsons still on? etc. Fox has officially renewed The Simpsons for seasons 31 and 32 so they’re doing good. If you want to watch tonight… go for it; I will be. I watch every Sunday. (Sammy)
Good Girls (10pm / NBC) – I missed this show when it first aired. As I think most of the world did as well. Since it finished airing and hit streaming it has exploded in popularity with a small but very vocal fanbase singing its virtues. Hopefully, Season 2 does live up to this hype. (Mr. Green)
Nothing! – Perhaps you can flick on Netflix and go back to Space Jam the 1996 classic with Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny before they ruin it with Space Jam 2 in 2021. (Sammy)
Star Wars Resistance (9pm / Disney XD) – This show has taken a long time to get to where things are starting to happen. Which of course anyone who pays attention to how Dave Filoni operates gets this pattern. He did it with Clone Wars, Rebels and now here again. Resistance like the others has taken time building characters/world very slowly. But now that we are closing in on the season finale all of this begins to pay off as before. The stakes are getting higher, the action is more intense and the plot threads begin to come together. Another fine addition to the Star Wars canon. (Mr. Green)
Tuesday, March 5
The Story of God with Morgan Freeman (9pm / Nat Geo) – Look it was either that or Disney’s Christopher Robin which just dropped on Netflix today… that movie is only useful if weren’t sure about the shirt-cocking references in Deadpool 2. (Sammy)
Hoarders (8pm / A&E) – A terrifying show about people with severe mental illnesses. The show is equal parts depressing and gross to watch at times. Some of these homes are beyond imaging in what they done to them. However, I feel for them as they struggle with very serious mental illnesses. I hope the people shown in each episode truly get the help and support they need. (Mr. Green)
Wednesday, March 6
Documentary Now! (11pm / IFC) – Cate Blanchett sendups Marina Abramovic and that whole “The Artist Is Present” thing. (I’ve seen it Abramovic trust me) it was begging to be mocked. I expect the Documentary Now! to do a thoroughly great job! (Sammy)
Deadly Class (10pm / SyFy) – I’m a really big fan of this show. As the season has moved on the stakes keep rising for the students as Chico and Yukio’s deaths force a school lock down and a gang war starts to brew. Seriously not a show kids but a ton of fun for those of us who remember what the 80’s were like. Plus it has a killer soundtrack. If you want to hear mine and Andrew’s thoughts on the season up to this point you can check out our latest episode that has our review here. (Mr. Green)
Thursday, March 7
The Order (Netflix) – This looks like every single CW show ever from Supernatural to Charmed to The Magicians to I dunno what else. Riverdale? The tagline started off so good but then: “Magic. Monsters. And…. midterms?” Ugh. I was in for Magic and I was so in for Magic AND Monsters but midterms? They didn’t make this for me. If you’re in the mood for a tv show about people with pimples and prom dates saving the world using magic I’m sure you’ll find everything is in… Order. (Sammy)
Superstore (8pm / NBC) – First new episode since the fall finale. Cloud 9 employee shenanigans are always fun to watch plus Mark McKinney as Glenn is one the best awkward characters on TV right now along Eugene Levy’s Johnny Rose. Every time Glenn speaks on this show I’m laughing. I’m very happy to see that it’s finally back. (Mr. Green)
Friday, March 8
After My Comment (See Below) – Mr. Green is right… you can’t go wrong with Ricky Gervais: he’s like our generation’s Don Rickles just with more hair! (Sammy)
After Life (3am / Netflix) – Don Rickles with more hair? Now that’s funny. Ricky Gervais is back for his latest comedy series. After losing his wife to cancer he discovers his hidden superpower. His ability to speak the truth to everyone and not care because he can kill himself in the end. Okay not what I would call a great superpower but they can’t all be winners. Looking forward to bingeing this dark comedy. (Mr. Green)
Saturday, March 9
Something! – If you didn’t watch Space Jam on Netflix when I suggested it back on Monday; here is yet another opportunity. (Sammy)
Boxing (8pm / FOX) – WBC Welterweight Champion Shawn Porter vs. Yordenis Ugas for the title. Hey, there’s nothing on so instead of punching yourself in the face might as well watch someone else do it. Or go out and get some fresh air. Nah who needs that, punching it is. (Mr. Green)
Well, there you go plenty of options for the week ahead. Enjoy yourself and watch responsibly.
