Hey not sure what to watch this week on the small screen? No worries #SetTheVCR is here to help you make some of those decisions easier. Each week Sammy Younan and I will give you our picks for each day of the coming week. Please note – enjoyment NOT guaranteed.

All times are Eastern Standard Time so please adjust for your time zone.

This week Mr. Green watches Game of Thrones while I watch Game of Zones since it’s the NBA Playoffs. It’s the glorious gamification of television: we’ve come a long way since Life and Sorry.

Sunday, April 14

NBA Playoffs 2019 (1pm / TNT) – So you could watch Game of Thrones or you could watch NBA playoff games and watch real men battling it out. There’s no dragon but there are Rockets, Trail Blazers and even Bucks. Even some Jazz if that’s your jam. 4 games today starting at 1pm. (Sammy)

Game of Thrones (9pm / HBO) – Like there is another choice for tonight or for the next 6 weeks. Sammy can talk about the NBA all he wants but nothing compares to the drama unfolding on Sunday nights as Game of Thrones comes to epic conclusion starting tonight!. Friendship, Love, Betrayal, Loyalty, Vengeance, Righteousness, Zombies and DRAGONS – all fighting for Westeros! (Mr. Green)

Monday, April 15

American Dad (10 pm / TBS) – I ah…don’t watch American Dad. Or Family Guy. In this life of choice, I went with The Simpsons and I’m good. But this show American Dad kicks off Season 16 today. So ah… this is the part where I’d include a show reference but I don’t know any without googling em. If you dig the show…and 16 seasons says lots of people do… here’s your heads up to #SetTheVCR. (Sammy)

WWE Monday Night RAW (8pm / USA) – Brand shakeup begins tonight. After the events of Wrestlemania and the followup shows last week we finally get to see where Superstars will be landing where. Obviously, Becky “Becky 2-Belts” Lynch will be on both shows but the rest are up in the air. Other than the Uso’s looking to be added to RAW all we can go on is if they are big monsters they will be here. Sorry but Vince has a type. (Mr. Green)

Tuesday, April 16

Seau (6pm / ESPN) – I vaguely remember Junior Seau. I think he played for the San Diego Chargers. Is that true? I’m an NBA basketball guy but that’s what a good documentary does it eliminates some of your ignorance. ESPN’s 30 for 30’s are some of the best sports I watch almost all of them regardless of the topic because unlike my steak they are so well done. So I’m excited for this one because I don’t know anything about the NFL or Junior Seau so I dunno what this is about. (Sammy)

WWE SmackDown LIVE! (8pm / USA) – Brand shakeup concludes tonight. Again since Vince believes this to be the second tier show he will put the Superstars he doesn’t have a lot of faith in here and of generally smaller stature. So I expect to see Ricochet, for example, stay here on Smackdown as Aleister Black goes to RAW splitting up this current tag team. I’m not expecting much on these shows other than who is going where and to start a few feuds to build up to Summer Slam. (Mr. Green)

Wednesday, April 17

Conan Without Borders: Australia (10pm / TBS) – Anytime Conan O’Brien busts out his passport it leads to gold. His Conan Without Borders specials are floating around Netflix check’em out if they’re still there. The success of these long bits has lead to significant changes in his show moving away from a traditional late-night talk show. This time Conan is travelling to Australia so crikey! you already know how some of this is gonna go. (It’s interesting as a former writer Conan’s comedic path follows The Simpsons who’ve travelled to a number of destinations acted like American idiots when they were there, then flew home and acted like everything was normal. This bit works well on both shows. (Sammy)

Breakthrough: The Ideas That Changed the World (10pm / PBS) – Looks at how the telescope was invented. These are the kind of shows that Discovery and History should be showing but that shipped sailed in the ’90s. For now, while PBS still has funding, we can rely on them to present interesting shows like this. I can’t wait to what else they have in this series to explore for us. (Mr. Green)

Thursday, April 18

Star Talk (11pm / Nat Geo) – There’s a show I don’t watch but Mr. Green does called Game of Thrones. The guy who made that show George R.R. Martin is on Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s show. Is that meta? I dunno what snapchat is either. (Sammy)

Star Trek: Discovery (8pm / CBS All Access)FINALE! – Season 2 comes to close tonight for the crew of the USS Discovery. With Control closing in on the data from the sphere, the entirety of the universe hangs in the balance. Plus this episode looks to make a big change to the trajectory of the series while solving some outstanding timeline issues. I’m sure there will be much interest rage tomorrow morning. Who cares the show really turned a corner this season and brought some really great fun moments and stories to the screen. I’m really looking forward to season 3. (Mr. Green)

Friday, April 19

Ramy (Anytime / Hulu) – If you like Atlanta or Barry check out Ramy. Hulu’s latest show is about an Egyptian millennial trying to navigate cultural morality in this current American Life. Think of it as Atlanta with lots of middle Eastern people set in New Jersey with a loose narrative. People like comic Dave Merheje and May El Calamawy who I interviewed for My Summer Lair. (Sammy)

Samantha! (3am / Netflix) – Another show from Netflix where I totally missed the boat on this series first season. Netflix is pumping out so many shows and movies each week it’s hard to keep up. A former child star quits her top of the charts show and becomes a bit of a laughing stock as she ages into adulthood. With a new book and movie on its way from her former co-stars, she sets out to prove the world she is not a childish monster. It looks like a ton of fun. (Mr. Green)

Saturday, April 20

Grass Is Greener (Anytime / Netflix) – Happy 420! Dave’s Not Here! I got the munchies! Weed is a culture: it has its own day and it has its own cliches. And today on Netflix it has its own documentary which should be fun and probably “light up” your screen. Snoop Dogg, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Fab 5 Freddy and others will be your professors offering you “higher education.” (Sammy)

NHL Playoffs (Various / Various) – The Playoffs continue. Teams are fighting every night for the right to continue to the next round until they reach ultimate glory the Stanley Cup Finals. However as hard as it is to get there winning it once you do is just as tough. (Mr. Green)

Well, there you go plenty of options for the week ahead. Enjoy yourself and watch responsibly.

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
