Hey not sure what to watch this week on the small screen? No worries #SetTheVCR is here to help you make some of those decisions easier. Each week Sammy Younan and I will give you our picks for each day of the coming week. Please note – enjoyment NOT guaranteed.

All times are Eastern Standard Time so please adjust for your time zone.

“Apparently, this is the all basketball version of this week’s #SetTheVCR. Eh… it’s that glorious time of year so bust out your foam #1 finger and your team’s pennant flag and cheer. (Failing that I assume Mr. Green will give you some non-basketball goodies to consume.)”

Sunday, April 7

’80s in the Sand (8pm / AXS TV) – Every Sunday in April you can kick it old school on AXS TV. The show is set in the Dominican Republic hence 80s in the sand (why there I dunno. Not really that 80s…) This is your Hot Tub Time Machine back to a time of big hair and nobody cared a band was called Cutting Crew and Just Say No. If you have kids this is a great opportunity to show them you were cool. Good luck with that! (Sammy)

Wrestlemania 35 (7pm / WWE)Wrestlemania weekend comes to a close with the biggest show of them all! Mania ranks as the 6th largest sporting event in the world. Yes, that’s right even bigger than the World Series (which is still a misnomer but I digress). Tonight sees history happen – for the first time the main event features women. A Winner Take All match with Rhonda Rousey vs Charlotte Flair vs “THE MAN” Becky Lynch. This match is the reason I started watching wrestling again, well WWE wrestling that is. After 15 years since I last seriously watched WWE, Becky Lynch got me interested in it and tonight is that payoff. (Mr. Green)

Monday, April 8

NCAA Basketball Tournament: Championship (9pm / CBS) – Kinda like Optimus Prime vs Megatron one shall stand… one shall fall: two remaining teams face off in the final of the 2019 NCAA Basketball Tournament in Minneapolis. (I ah… really thought Michigan State Spartans were gonna win the whole thing… I was wrong!) (Sammy)

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (8pm / CW) – My first anti-basketball pick! The Legends returned last week to discover that Nate’s dad Hank is not the nice friendly government overseer that thought he was. This week the adventure continues as they lose the Waverider to a young Hank. All while they continue to look for evidence of Hank’s nefarious plans for the imprisoned magical fugitives from history. Plus a bonus this week on Geek Hard we will be talking with the nippleless wonder Gary played Adam Tsekhman. Tune in LIVE Friday at 7pm. (Mr. Green)

Tuesday, April 9

Fosse/Verdon: Miniseries (10pm / FX) – I guess you could technically watch for Sam Rockwell: dude’s super talented and always entertaining. Truly the only reason I’d watch this Fosse biopic is to better understand Chazz Busby jokes on The Simpsons. Otherwise this song and dance does nothing for me. (Granted they didn’t make this for me!) (Sammy)

Schitt’s Creek (9pm / CBC)Finale! Tonight marks the last episode of season 5. It’s a long wait until it returns in the winter for it’s sixth and final season. Tonight is the opening of Cabaret with Stevie missing chaos ensues. All while David is trying to share his big news. I honestly thought we were going to have to wait until next season for David’s news but they snuck in a 14th episode this year. I’m hoping for some Cabaret musical magi to take place tonight. maybe even Moira on stage?! (Mr. Green)

Wednesday, April 10

NBA Games (Various times/channels) – If the NCAA Championship game is kinda like Optimus Prime vs Megatron then the 2018-2019 NBA season which ends today is kinda like G.I. Joe vs Cobra. The 82 game season concludes with some games which’ll impact playoff matches. The real true season of the NBA begins on April 13. Even more importantly: is May 30 when 2019’s NBA Finals begin. (Sammy)

Dark Side of the Ring (9pm / Viceland) – Sammy was right here comes another counter-programming option to basketball this week. A new take on some darker stories from the history of wrestling. This first episode will be looking at the story of Randy “Macho Man” Savage and Miss Elizabeth both in the ring and outside of it. This should an interesting ride down these dark matches of history that fans will want to see and the WWE will deny endlessly. They like to re-write history all the time. Unfortunately, many of these stories will not end well for those involved. (Mr. Green)

Thursday, April 11

StarTalk (11pm / Nat Geo) – Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s StarTalk returns with 2 back-to-back episodes starting at 11pm: Jack Black and Dan Rather. The second one should be Rather interesting. (Sammy)

The Orville (9pm / FOX) – Returns after a brief 2 week hiatus. Things look intense this week as the crew is faced with a potential act of war against them and the Union. It’ll be interesting to see if that threat is the Moclans as they play a key role in this week’s episode apparently. I have a feeling that the gender issue started back in season one is coming back to the fore front again. There was already another episode this year that dealt with it and there have multiple references to it between Bortus and Klyden regarding their son. I’m happy if this storyline is not going away. (Mr. Green)

Friday, April 12

Perfect Date (3am / Netflix) – I’m telling you this because it stars the dreamy hunk from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before which we both enjoyed. (So happy they’re making a sequel!) Unfortunately, the girl in The Perfect Date is not as pretty or as cute as the All the Boys lass (so Dreamy Hunk did much better in his earlier movie. Good for him! Though as you keep watching the Date trailer there is a Witness The Fitness girl he’s with at the end in the black dress? He’s not gonna end up with her because she’s shallow but man shallow people need loving too, yo!) Oh man… so gonna get some SmartFood for this one. (Sammy)

NHL Playoffs (7pm / Various) – Sammy can talk ball all day but the rest of us like other things. One of those that I like is hockey. The NHL Playoffs are a glorious time of year, IF, your team makes it. Luckily my team did (GO LEAFS!) so I get to watch and see how they do. Fingers crossed. Regardless there are plenty of other teams playing in series this week. So tonight go catch some great hockey action as the playoffs are usually best example of the awesomeness of the sport there is. Plus anything can happen at a game see the video for what I mean. (Mr. Green)

Saturday, April 13

The Resurgence: DeMarcus Cousins (8pm / Showtime) – Showtime has been steadily teasing this documentary for a year. It was worse than a San Diego Comic-Con trailer. At long last, it is finally here though kinda annoying it’s the first day of the NBA Playoffs. I guess that’d be considered good marketing but there were no games on the night before… why wouldn’t you drop it then?! I dunno. It’s here: let’s do this thing. Then sort it all out later… oh, there will be questions. (Sammy)

Nothing! – There is absolutely nothing on tonight. But that’s okay as you need to prepare yourself. Sunday is coming. Yes get your sleep now and steel your soul for the next 6 weeks are going to be intense Sundays. The snow has fallen and it’s coming for blood. Many will die as only one can sit on THE THRONE! Prepare. (Mr. Green)

Well, there you go plenty of options for the week ahead. Enjoy yourself and watch responsibly.

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
