Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by Kris Johnson. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

WAR OF THE REALMS: NEW AGENTS OF ATLAS #1 (OF 4) $3.99 (Marvel) – From the flames of war, a new team of Asian heroes is born! Greg Pak teams with Gang-Hyuk Lim to tell what happens when Sindr, Queen of Muspelheim, brings her army of fire demons to Asia for a little game of conflagrate and conquer. Unfortunately for she of the flaming horns and undefined figure, Sindr is about to find out the hard way that the Pacific Rim is not without its defenders. I’m talking new heroes like Aero, Swordmaster, and Wave, as well as Marvel mainstays like Silk, Jimmy Woo, and two of my favourites, Amadeus Cho and muthafuggin’ Shang Chi! I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say that Sindr is probably gonna get her head kicked off. (Kris)

DEADLY CLASS #38 $3.99 (Image) – You ever walk back into hell? That’s what Marcus and Maria are doing. They’re going back to Kings Dominion. This sounds like a bad idea. It also sounds like things are about to pick up! I can see the makings of a 4 alarm slobberknocker coming our way with this one. (Andrew)

METALSHARK BRO #1 $3.99 (Scout) – This is a comic in which a demon finds a random shark and turns that shark into a sharkman to act as a soul-debt collector, only to have the sharkman rebel and swear bloody vengeance on the demon. He just wants to be a normal shark, maaaan! You want to read this comic. You have to read this comic. (Kris)

RED SONJA & VAMPIRELLA MEETS BETTY & VERONICA #1 $3.99 (Dynamite)If there’s something strange / in your neighbourhood / Who you gonna call? / Red Sonja, Vampirella, Betty and Veronica. That’s who! Amy Chu and Maria Sanapo bring us the comic we never knew we needed! A series of paranormal, unsolved murders bring Sonja and Vampirella to town. But Betty and Veronica are already on the case for the school newspaper. That makes total sense. The four must team up to bring this Neerdowell to justice. It would be a grave injustice if you passed on this one. (Andrew)

X-FORCE #7 $3.99 (Marvel) – So Stryfe finally showed up in the present and just took Kid Cable. And nobody did nuthin! Sure, maybe it was because the rest of X-Force had pretty much just fought a war and a couple of their members are half-dead and stuff. I don’t think those are quality excuses, do you? Step it up, X-Force! Get your boy back!(Kris)

PEARL TP VOL 01 $16.99 (Jinxworld) – Hey kids, remember back in the day when Bendis used to make those crime comics? I’m talking late ’90s. You remember, right? Well, he’s doing it again. This time, the hero is Pearl, a tattoo artist and sometimes Yakuza assassin living in San Fransciso. Volume 1 of this series is available now and it’s AWESOME! You don’t just want this. You NEED this. Trust me. No jokes here. Just straight up endorsement. (Andrew)

EXCELLENCE #1 $3.99 (Image) – Spencer Dales was born to inherit his father’s mantle as a member of Aegis — An ancient society of magicians tasked with making the world a better place. Only problem is, when Spencer reaches the age of ascension, he’s not looking to be a part of the system so much as he’s fixing to tear it down. Could be a tall order, though. Ancient, historically entrenched systems built to control and oppress an unwitting populace are notoriously difficult to destroy. Or so I hear. (Kris)

CAPTAIN MARVEL #5 $3.99 (Marvel) – You know who I hate? Nuclear Man. I really hope somebody kicks the crap out of him this issue. Oh, would you look at that. Captain Marvel is about to do that exactly. But Nucy’s a pesky little nugget of crap that just won’t lose that easy. He’s hidden a bomb. Finding this bomb is really going to cut into Carol’s beating-the-crap-out-of-Nuclear-Man time. (Andrew)

MURDER FALCON #8 $3.99 (Image) – The end of the epic ballad of MURDER FALCON is nigh! Brooticus stands united with the greatest and most powerful musicians in the world. A unified front of aural awesomeness ready to do battle against the forces of absolute evil under the command of Magnum Khaos! Will Jake and Murph survive the ultimate battle against the darkness? Will metal prevail? Or will Magnum Khaos plunge all that is into the shadows? Pick up this most metal finale to find out! (Kris)

ASTRO CITY: AFTERMATHS HC $24.99 (Vertigo)Astro City is done like dinner. There might be other dinners in the future. But this dinner is done and Kurt Busiek is going to take a break from eating this dinner….because it’s done…for now. I really stretched this analogy as far as it can go and yet I still only scratched the surface of my intended statement. This hardcover collects the final run of issues of this Astro City series. If you like tributes to and character analysis of the traditional comic book hero, you need to read this. The real question is why haven’t you already? All this talk of dinner has made me hungry. I’m gonna go grab some chow……for now. (Andrew)

So there you go. That’s this week’s New Comics. Check these books out and let us know what you think. We’ll be back next week with more choice cuts of comic goodness.

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
