Hey not sure what to watch this week on the small screen? No worries #SetTheVCR is here to help you make some of those decisions easier. Each week Sammy Younan and I will give you our picks for each day of the coming week. Please note – enjoyment NOT guaranteed.

All times are Eastern Standard Time so please adjust for your time zone.

We are now in the thick of it. I’m sure Sammy will have some things to say about the lack of good choices now that the summer is here.

Mr. Green has you covered with the Stanley Cup Finals and I’m offering NBA Finals ruckus. And even with all those high stakes sports, we got some good ol’ fashioned television shows and classic movies to consume.

Monday,  June 3

The Weekly (Anytime / Hulu) – “The New York Times presents: One Story. In pursuit of the truth.” So says The Weekly media release. It’s basically All the President’s Men but on tv on Sundays on F/X. Then every Monday the episodes appear on Hulu. You can trust my sources on this. (Sammy)

2019 Stanley Cup Final (8pm / NBC) –  Game 4 will the Blues pull it off a series win and finally win the Cup after 49 years? Honestly, this is a very no one cares Final except for the possibility that St. Louis finally gets their ring. Nobody likes Boston and for good reason, they are a garbage team that keeps playing a garbage system in the trap. BREATHE!… I’m okay, really I am. I’m just not a fan of the trap or teams that play it. It’s a shame as there are some really good players on the team and then there’s Brad (face-licker) Marchant. The less said the better about him. (Mr. Green)

Tuesday, June 4

Prince: Rave Un2 The Year 2000 (9pm / PBS) – We lost Prince on April 21, 2016. Thankfully we have his music and live specials like Rave Un2 the Year 2000 to remember what we have lost. And it’s also a reminder to savour what we currently have. (This was shot at Paisley Park Studios… aren’t they supposed to be opening that up for the public? Like a Prince Graceland?!) (Sammy)

WWE Smackdown Live! (8pm / USA) – The last live show before Super Showdown. An event that is steeped in its own issues mostly political (the real kind) and then lower on the list is how bad the storylines are going into this event. Hopefully, they can pull their heads out of their collective asses and fix this sinking boat. They have great assets that are just not getting the best chances to shine as they could. Last weeks Smackdown was a massive improvement over the RAW the night before. The success of AEW’s Double or Nothing PPV is becoming more apparent in the days after based on what WWE is doing. (Mr. Green)

Wednesday, June 5

Black Mirror (3am / Netflix) – While Game 3 of the 2019 NBA finals unfolds in one of the literally final games in Oakland you can stop and stare into the Black Mirror for season five. Just don’t be quick to dismiss that distorted reflection because there’s more truth there than you’d like. (Sammy)

The Inbetween (10pm / NBC) – I’ll give a shot as there are very slim pickings these days. NBC goes back to the psychic well with this series. It feels a lot like Medium starring Patricia Arquette from 2005. Cassie sees dead people and uses this ability to help her foster dad solves murders. Of course, this can’t go well for Cassie as seeing this much death and horror will most likely have a very negative effect on her as the series continues. (Mr. Green)

Thursday, June 6

Nothing! – I got nothing. However sometime this Fall Thursday nights will become special again because Orville Season 3 is coming (on May 11, 2019, Fox renewed the series for a third season. Yes!). If you have not checked out Orville season 1 or most especially Season 2 than that’s your Summer homework. Trust me after finishing Season 2 you’ll have the best how I Spent My Summer Vacation report ever. (Sammy)

Elementary (10pm / CBS) – So much for a change of scenery. At the end of the first episode, they make it very clear that was only a temporary situation. With Gregson injured Holmes and Watson want to help and while she can get back in the country Sherlock is not so lucky. Making every attempt to get back in legally he has resorted for the less desirable alternative. I have a feeling that will not end well for him especially after the end of last weeks episode. (Mr. Green)

Friday, June 7

2019 NBA Finals (9pm / ABC) – It is Game 4 of the spellbinding 2019 NBA Finals in Oakland, California. Do you know what else is tense and fraught with peril? Families. Tonight Netflix is offering test tube babies raised by androids. Eh…what can go wrong? On that story, Mr. Green has more. Mr. Green? (Sammy)

I Am Mother (3am / Netflix) – Netflix has not had the best track record when it comes to original movies. Yes, they had ROMA but that is the exception, not the rule right now. However, they are the only major studio that is seeming to take risks with their movie productions. They have been filling in the void of the mid-tier movie market. I have high hopes for this kick at the can in the sci-fi realm again. It looks like the kind of project that could really be a hit for them. A good cast and a solid sci-fi premise hopefully, for both us the viewers and the fate of humankind in the movie this works. As much as I like any sci-fi, well done “hard sci-fi” is a glorious thing. (Mr. Green)

Saturday, June 8

The Black Godfather (Anytime / Netflix) – Yesterday The Black Godfather premiered on Netflix. An excellent musical documentary on music mogul Clarence Avant which if the name makes you say who? than that’s why you need to watch this doc. Also like EVERYBODY is this. (Sammy)

Aliens (8:30pm / BBCA) – I will always suggest this movie, it’s one of my all-time favourites. You have James Cameron when he still was interested in making fun movies, Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn as Ripley and Hicks who both kick ass, the always awesome Lance Hendrickson as Bishop, a smarmy Paul Reiser (Burke) playing against type and being great at it, plus a badass Xenomorph Queen to battle what more could you want? Quit your grinnin’ and drop your linen as we also have Bill Paxton as part of the Colonial Marines brought to LV-426 to help on the bug hunt. Like I said it’s a classic. Hopefully, BBCA shows the extended cut that includes the extra footage of Newts parents and the auto guns. (Mr. Green)

Sunday, June 9

Celebrity Family Feud: Season 5 (8pm / ABC) – Survey says this’ll be fun. Survey also says it’s Sunday night so there’s slim pickings. (Sammy)

Billions (9pm / Showtime)FINALE! The season four finale is here but good news as the show has been picked up for a fifth season. I really need to get back into this show. I started watching it but let slip in the past seasons. With a super strong cast lead by Paul Giamatti and a great premise that fits with the current climate it really is one of the smartest shows on TV right now. (Mr. Green)

Well, there you go plenty of options for the week ahead. Enjoy yourself and watch responsibly.

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
