Hey not sure what to watch this week on the small screen? No worries #SetTheVCR is here to help you make some of those decisions easier. Each week Sammy Younan and I will give you our picks for each day of the coming week. Please note – enjoyment NOT guaranteed.
All times are Eastern Standard Time so please adjust for your time zone.
After last weeks dismal RAW I’m hoping that we see major improvements now that Paul Heyman officially takes over the show. I don’t have a lot of faith in Bischoff and Smackdown right now but we’ll see. There is actually other stuff this week so let’s get into it.
Appears this week’s #SetTheVCR I’ll be Frank… enstein. Yup. I know.Sammy Younan

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee? (
Monday Night RAW (8pm / USA) – This is going to be a highly watched show for WWE. It might not be highly watched in the ratings but it certainly will for what Heyman is doing by WWE critics. After months of so-so booking and failing ratings, Vince McMahon finally woke up and has let someone else take over the show, yet still reporting to him so don’t get too excited. Regardless this is also pivotal as it will be the first show to start the setup for the matches at Summerslam in August. Fingers crossed. (Mr. Green)

Frankenstein’s Monster’s Monster, Frankenstein (3am / Netflix) – This whole special is weird. I’m not sure what it’s supposed to accomplish… maybe just be one of those fun things like a Drunk History episode or something. I’m also not a fan of found-footage Cloverfield and Blair Witch Project those kinds of things. But I like Frankenstein so while I don’t know what this is I will give it 10 minutes and see if it’s alive. (Sammy)
Smackdown LIVE! (8pm / USA) – Eric Bischoff may or may not be involved this week depending on who you are listening to for your wrestling news. If it’s as good as last weeks show where Kevin Owens gave his version of a “pipe bomb” promo then it’ll be a good night. However, if it’s like the prior week than bury your head and flip the channel. Fingers and toes crossed here. (Mr. Green)

8 Days: To the Moon and Back (
Pearson (10pm / USA) – I was a really big fan of Suits when it started nine years ago. As it progressed the storyline got thinner and thinner as they went along. With that being said I always liked Jessica played by the great Gina Torres. She has moved on from her old role at the firm and moved to Chicago and will be a “Fixer” for the mayor. No longer encumbered by the restrictions of the law Jessica can let her claws out and that’s an exciting idea for viewers to see. She is a ruthless player in any game she is part of. Chi-town has a new BOSS starting tonight. (Mr. Green)

Power, Influence and Hip-Hop: The Remarkable Rise of So So Def (
Forecast: Shark Attack (10pm / National Geographic) – There have always been sharks in the music business like Sammy’s pick above. However over on NatGeo, they are dealing in actual sharks. Yes, it’s Shark Fest on the channel and here we get a show based on the idea can shark attacks be predicted like the weather is? I will say that if this was to actually work an early shark warning system would be a boon for certain beaches around the world. However, much like Al Capone’s vault, I have a feeling this will amount to an interesting idea and not much more. I look forward to finding out. (Mr. Green)
Friday, July 19
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee (3am / Netflix) – Eddie Murphy!! I dunno who else is on… just Eddie. Yo. (Sammy)
Killjoys (10pm / Space) – PREMIERE! The final season is upon us. The season begins with the Lady’s fingers on the everyone’s throat as she makes her move into the Quad. Plus we finally get to meet the Lady in person this season. Tune in on Friday at 7pm EST / 4pm PST as Andrew and myself give our spoiler-free review of the first 3 episodes. Plus there may be some additional surprises and our Geek Hard Extra exclusively on Patreon, where we will be playing clips from our on-set visit with the cast and crew while they were filming the final season. (Mr. Green)

The Hilarious House Of Frightenstein (Anyti
Apollo: The Forgotten Films (8pm / Discovery) – More Apollo Moon Landing anniversary specials are happening this week. Sharks and moon landings great time to be a fan of science nerdery. The story of the Apollo 11 moon landing is told with footage not seen anywhere else, revealing how an army of engineers, scientists and astronauts went to incredible lengths to achieve America’s greatest technological feat. (Mr. Green)

All or Nothing: A Season With The Carolina Panthers (Anyti
Euphoria (10pm / HBO) – Like Sammy tonight provides me with a possible redemption with another show that I’m just hearing about. Apparently, I have been focusing on other bright and shiny things that I missed this one. I’m now working to rectify the issue and get caught up ASAP. The show stars Zendaya as a recovering and unrepentant addict in high school. This is not a show for every family or teenager. As a group of high school students navigates drugs, sex, identity, trauma, social media, love and friendship. It does look to be quite a ride. Let me get caught up and we can talk. (Mr. Green)
Well, there you go plenty of options for the week ahead. Enjoy yourself and watch responsibly.
If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
