Hey not sure what to watch this week on the small screen? No worries #SetTheVCR is here to help you make some of those decisions easier. Each week Sammy Younan and I will give you our picks for each day of the coming week. Please note – enjoyment NOT guaranteed.
All times are Eastern Standard Time so please adjust for your time zone.
Some conclusions to some more summer shows this week. We are starting to move into those dog days of summer as September looms ever larger on our calendars. Did you like Mindhunter last week or any of our other recommendations? Let us know.
So last week because it all Netflix’s Mindhunter: Season 2 there’s a few gems we missed. This is a good catch up week.

I Ship It (9:30pm / CW) – PREMIERE! Season two of the series kicks off tonight. It is a wacky comedy for those looking for something fun and a little musical along the way. Bonus it’s a limited series so it won’t be too much of an investment for those who take a shot on it. Plus it only 30 minutes, who doesn’t have 30 minutes to spare each week? (Mr. Green)

Better Than Us (
Smackdown LIVE! (8pm / USA) – The drama surrounding the “Who tried to kill Roman Reigns?” mystery is still a thing. This week Daniel Bryan claims that he will finally reveal who it was and with proof. After Roman beat the snot out of Buddy Murphy 2 weeks ago and then Buddy got beaten senseless by Rowan after his great match with Roman, he recanted his story that it was a murderous Rowan. The levels of telenovela going on here are great and making the show interesting which will hopefully allow the booking to improve the in-ring matches quickly. (Mr. Green)

American Factory (
Ghost Hunters (9pm / A&E) – PREMIERE! After fifteen years since the show first aired the team returns with a new season. Is it possible that a change in networks will make the show better than it’s hokey at times earlier version? Paranormal shows like this were a big deal back in the early 2000’s the question now is will it still be the hot commodity it was back then. (Mr. Green)

Hail Satan? (Anytime / Hulu) – Hail Satan? Like for real? I honestly can’t tell what’s real or people being trolls or what is happening anymore. Like… is this how people live?! This trailer is fascinating… I wanna see this doc! (Sammy)
Holey Moley (8pm / ABC) – Back to back tonight including the FINALE! I finally sat down and started watching some this craziness recently. I had just passed it by assuming it was just another lame game show, however that is not the case. Extreme mini golf is now a thing I’m very interested in. Hopefully, even with the ratings going down over it’s run, the show gets a second season so Producer Stephon Curry can give us more EXTREME MINI GOLF! (needs to be said with a death metal voice). See the clip below for a taste of what this show is like. (Mr. Green)
Friday, August 23
Jawline (Anytime / Hulu) – Another Sundance documentary! Jawline follows Austyn Tester a Tennessee teen turned live-streaming
BH90210 (8pm / FOX) – It’s the replay from Wednesday nights episode. Yeah, Sammy can whine all he wants about it (see Sunday) but I continue to have fun with the show. Plus there was much else on tonight. There is this or the NFL: Bills vs Lions game and that’s not for everyone so we are back to the all too meta Beverly Hills reboot series. Take that to the Peach Pit Sammy! (Mr. Green)
Saturday, August 24
Hitsville: The Making Of Motown (9pm / Showtime) – The incredible saga of the legendary Motown Records told through new interviews with the label’s visionary founder, Berry Gordy, and many of its superstar artists and creative figures. Plus the standard rare performances and behind-the-scenes footage unearthed from Motown’s vaults and Gordy’s personal archives. Should be a fun sonic treat. (Sammy)
Nothing! – It’s just the way it works. Some nights you just can’t anything worth watching. So if you are not going out and you don’t have any movies to watch or video/board games to play then why not catch up on some of Sammy’s picks that you missed. He went a little cerebral this week on the documentaries. Maybe next week is all reality shows and sports. (Mr. Green)
Sunday, August 24
Nothing! – All I did was recommend documentaries…take a break and enjoy whatever Mr. Green recommends. (Hopefully, it’s not Beverly Hills 902010…we had a “talk” about that.) (Sammy)
Instinct (9pm / CBS) – FINALE! Sadly this is also the series finale as well. As it was announced early in the week that the show was not being renewed for a third season by the network. Thankfully we should be getting a conclusion to the Sleeping Beauty Killer and go out on a quasi conclusion. It’s too bad as the season has been really well done this year. A good overall arc for the villain of the year plus some nice character work along the way. Alan Cumming was excellent as always as was Bojana Novakovick, Naveen Andrews, Daniel Ings and Sharon Leal. (Mr. Green)
Well, there you go plenty of options for the week ahead. Enjoy yourself and watch responsibly.
If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
