Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Sammy Younan as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
Halloween is almost here. So is the end of our Horror theme with the month of October. For our last instalment, we take a look at the rise and fall and rise and fall of Horror comics!
Horror comics first rose to prominence in the aftermath of World War II. Fan attention for costumed superhero had waned and the audience looked for stories with a bit more bite. Horror and Crime comics were the order of the day. Over time, due to outside forces and industry meddling, Horror would see a rapid decline in the 60s, then a return to form in the 70s. The ups and downs of scary comics would not end there as even today, the popularity of horror comes in fits and bursts.
Join Andrew and Sammy as they examine the history of Horror Comics. From the heyday of EC Comics, to Marvel’s Tomb of Dracula, to the modern success of The Walking Dead, we touch on it all. We also discuss the trend of horror seeping into mainstream hero comics like Venom and Spawn. Sit back and enjoy some chills and thrills with us on an ALL NEW Back Issue Bloodbath!
