Originally Aired: 12/06/19 – Our annual Christmas show featuring Alex James and a look at Christmas movies, comics and TV shows

Show Notes:

That’s right friends, the season is upon us! It’s time for the Geek Hard Christmas Special!

We start off with the return of our favourite holiday punching bag – Alex James, in-studio for the whole show. He will be performing later in the show but first, we have to beat him up a little. Like we said he’s our favourite holiday punching bag!

Our annual tradition of the Great Christmas Movie Swap! continues. Where we each give the other a Christmas movie the other hasn’t watched for the first time and then we review it. Andrew reviews Feast of the Seven Fishes (chosen by Mr. Green). A slice of life story that follows a large Italian family on Christmas Eve as they prepare for the traditional Feast of the Seven Fishes, reminisce about the past, and seek love in the future. While Mr. Green reviews The Night Before (chosen by Andrew). On Christmas eve, three lifelong friends spend the night in New York City looking for the Holy Grail of Christmas parties. This part of the show has contributed to the most violent reactions from each player in the past. With no Vince Vaughn, things might be different this year.

We, of course, continue the tradition of forcing Mr. Green to read Christmas themed comics. This year Andrew has chosen Gwenpool Holiday Special: Merry Mix Up! Written by Various Writers with Art by Various Artists Colours by Various Colourists and Letters by Various Letterers Published December 14, 2016, and Superman’s Christmas Adventure Written by Jerry Siegel Art by Jack Burnley Published 1940. While Mr. Green likes comics he is not a fan of Christmas themed comics and Andrew continues’ his campaign to make Green like them.

Of course, no Christmas show would be complete without our annual checking out of Christmas TV specials and hitting some television specials from the past. This year Mr. Green has chosen the holiday episodes from Doctor Who – “The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe” and Superstore – “Christmas Eve”.

Lastly, no Geekmas would be complete without Alex James taking part in another of Geek Hard’s time-honoured traditions: Alex James Christmas Trivia. For the past 9 years running, we have subjected Alex to an embarrassing trivia quiz that shows off how much of a humbug this guy really is. If you’ve never heard the quiz before, you’re in for a treat. For those that have, the good times continue.

The Geek Hard Christmas Stocking winner is announced. Congratulations! Dan Kerr of Oshawa, Ontario.

Plus, the debut of Geek Hard’s 2019 Christmas song “The Old Man is Back in Town” performed by Andrew Young and musical accompaniment by Alex James.

Geek Hard Extra:

Plus exclusively for our $4/month+ Patreon supporters, our latest Geek Hard Extra After Credits segment featuring Andrew’s interview with Lisa Ovies and Kevin Mosley of Puppet Killer from the Blood in the Snow Film Festival.

If you’re gonna geek out, GEEK HARD!
