Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by Kris Johnson. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

LEGION OF SUPER HEROES #3 $3.99 (DC Comics) – Is Damian Wayne my favourite Robin? I don’t know. I’m conflicted about it. When I was a kid, I loved Tim Drake. As I got older, Grayson started making his way up the charts. Then, Grant Morrison dropped Damian in our laps and I fucking haaaaated him. I tolerated him. Then I kinda liked him. Now I laugh my bag off every time he throws a “tt” at someone. What a snarky little turd. I love him. Anyway, in this issue of Legion, he joins his pal Jon as the newest Legionnaire and the future will never be the same! From Bendis and Sook, so you know it’ll be extra awesome! (Kris)

JESSICA JONES BLIND SPOT #1 (OF 6) $3.99 (Marvel) – It’s always a treat to read a Jessica Jones story, and this is your third chance to do so. This series, written by Kelly Thompson, was first released digitally back in 2018! Then it was printed as a graphic novel. Now it’s made it’s way to a six issue release. This is a fun read in any format! Jessica is a private detective and a pretty good one. But she screws up sometimes. One of those screwups comes back to haunt her as a former client shows up dead at her doorstep. Awkward. Now’s she’s gotta clear her name and find the real killer. Typical day at the office, amirite? (Andrew)

NIGHTWING BY PETER J TOMASI TP $29.99 (DC Comics) – This entry is titled: Peter J Tomasi and Rags Morales and the greatest Nightwing run of all time. There have been great Dick Grayson stories, and great Teen Titans featuring Nightwing stories, and great Dick as Batman stories. But for my money, the work done in the Nightwing series from #140-153 is the best the character has ever been, all on his own, in his own title. It’s great. If you’ve never read it, treat yo’self with this much-needed collected edition containing the entire run. (Kris)

HELLBOY WINTER SPECIAL $3.99 (Dark Horse) – It’s winter time! I know you already know that. I just wanted to state that again to remind you that with winter comes the Hellboy Winter Special! That’s right, kids! Not one, not two, but THREE occult-filled tales to get you throw the dark, cold nights of this chilly season. No need to thank me. Mike Mignola, Dark Horse, and a bunch of creators did all the heavy lifting. I just reminded you to pick it up. They’re the real heroes. Speaking of the exact opposite…… (Andrew)

REVENGE OF COSMIC GHOST RIDER #2 (OF 5) $3.99 (Marvel) – I’ll level with you guys, I took a flyer when I recommended the first issue of this book. I do love Cosmic Ghost Rider, but since Thanos Wins and his first mini, he’s been hit and miss. That said, I had faith in Dennis Hopeless to work some Avengers Arena magic. He didn’t disappoint. Add on to that juicy taco the pleasant surprise of Scott Hepburn’s artistic excellence, and the return of cult-favourite character Cammi, and the book went from “marginal recommendation” to “you’ve gotta fucking read this crazy shit!”. After blowing up a Shi’ar prison at the cost of his body, regenerating said body by absorbing a gang of space-pirates, and running afoul of the universe’s deadliest pirate king, Cosmic Ghost Rider will throw down with said pirate king and, possibly Mephisto. You’ve gotta read this crazy shit! (Kris)

GREEN LANTERN LEGACY TP $9.99 (DC Comics) – These DC young adult graphic novels have been pretty damn good. Quality storytelling and fantastic artwork. Green Lantern: Legacy is no different. Twelve year old Tai Pham inherits his grandmother’s jade ring and finds out that it’s more than just a family heirloom. He’s now a Green Lantern. But does he have the courage and imagination to defeat the racist bullies that are messing up his neighbourhood? Minh Le tells the story. Andie Tong provides the pictures. Check it out! (Andrew)

ROM: DIRE WRAITHS #1 (OF 3) $4.99 (IDW) – If there’s something I’ve learned the last few years it’s that Rom has a large, devoted following. This came as a surprise to me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t think Rom is cool. It’s just no one seemed to talk about him until 5 minutes ago. Like they were all afraid for some reason? Anyway, whatever repressing these folks has shaken off and they’re supporting their galactic hero in a big way. As a result, we’ve gotten some well-received comics featuring Rom, and Dire Wraiths launches a whole new chapter. This mini we’re taken back to the 1969 moon landing. In this alternate history, Armstrong and co encounter the Dire Wraiths during the mission. Will they live or die? Will Rom show up and lend a hand? Dude’s name is in the title, so probably. (Kris)

OVER MY DEAD BODY TP $16.99 (Image) – A prison warden’s daughter has fallen in a separatist militia. The warden’s only hope of getting his daughter back is the prison’s worst inmate, a lethal contract killer named Markham. But Markham says he’s on the side of the angels now as a near death experience has convinced him to use his talents for good. This sounds like it could be schlocktastic! But it spins out of the Near Death series and could be a lot of fun. They say it’s got John Wick vibes. Probably a bloody good read. (Andrew)

RUINS OF RAVENCROFT: SABRETOOTH #1 $4.99 (Marvel) – I’m a sucker for a good Sabretooth story. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve always been down for a yarn about a big hairy blond guy who sometimes has difficulty processing his anger in a healthy way. I should probably talk to someone about that. In the meantime, I’ll just read this comic book about a mutant sociopath that murders and probably eats people and push all that other stuff deep down inside. Deep, deep down. That’s the healthy thing to do.(Kris)

AQUAMAN #56 $3.99 (DC Comics) – If you read my picks for the Ten Best Comics of 2019, you already know that Aquaman made the list. Kelly Sue DeConnick told an amazing story filled with old sea gods, a fisherman who can turn into a kauji, and Black Manta being a dick. Now Kyle Higgins takes a crack at it by bringing back the Trench! Yeah, evil fish are back! Plus, Mera is so pregnant, she’s about ready to pop. This is the worst time for evil fish to come back. Or is it the best time for us readers? Anyways, Aquaman is a fun read again! The last time that happened was about 9 years ago, so maybe it’s new cycle of Aquaman stories. I don’t know. Pick up this book if anything I just said made any remote sense to you. (Andrew)
