We talk with actor Laurence LeBoeuf. Laurence has starred in numerous film and television projects, including Turbo Kid, 19-2 and Transplant. She joined us to talk about her latest film, Catch and Release, which explores abortion rights, trauma and religious extremism through a sharp feminist lense. The film comes to virtual cinemas on July 10th and iTunes on July 14th. Laurence LeBoeuf inherited the acting gene from her parents, veteran Canadian actors Diane Lavallée and Marcel Leboeuf. Her first role was at age 11 in the series Virginie and she quickly became a darling of Quebec audiences and critics, accumulating numerous awards and accolades. Since then she has appeared in over 40 films and television programs and has had lead roles in several acclaimed series. Laurence was nominated for a Gemini Award for her work in 15/Love, her first English-language project for U.S. audiences. The festival favourite Turbo Kid (2015) confirmed her as a presence in the international cinema scene.

Our review of Netflix’s The Old Guard starring Charlize Theron, KiKi Layne and Matthias Schoenaerts. Led by a warrior named Andy, a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile, the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Greg Rucka and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball, Beyond the Lights), The Old Guard is a gritty, grounded, action-packed story that shows living forever is harder than it looks.

We also talk with writer Wendy Litner. Wendy is the creator of the popular web series How To Buy A Baby. Its second season is a selection at this year’s T.O. Webfest, happening online July 9th to 13th! Wendy is a lawyer-turned-writer and creator of the CBC original digital series, How to Buy a Baby-a comedy based on her own hilarious inability to conceive. Wendy’s essays have appeared in The Globe and Mail, The Huffington Post, xoJane, Today’s Parent, SheWrites, and McSweeneys, among others. She worked as story coordinator on the first season of The Beaverton and was so excited to write for the show’s second season and holiday specials. Wendy is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and the Richard Ivey School of Business, though she is happy to not be practicing law or business.
