Welcome friends to Back Issue Bloodbath, a comics-centric podcast presented by Geek Hard. Join hosts Andrew Young and Petula Neale as they get down and dirty in the four-colour world of comic books, focusing on classic stories, new issues, comic creators and hot button topics.
There’s only one episode of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier left and it drops this Friday! If you’re a fan of Captain America, the series is full of tidbits and deep dives from the comics. But the two most important ingredients are Sam and Bucky. This week, we take a look back on the Captain America story arc that brought us one of the best characters in the modern era: The Winter Soldier by Ed Brubaker, Steve Epting, and Michael Lark.
Back in the mid-2000s, there was great changes going on at Marvel. The Avengers relaunched as New Avengers. Iron Man had the Extremis storyline. And Captain America relaunched with The Winter Soldier, a retcon gamble that paid off in dividends. 13 issues that took a golden age crummy sidekick and turned him into the ultimate weapon. Gone was the camp mascot. In his place was Cap’s greatest regret wrapped up in a metal arm and a whole lot of killing!
Join Andrew and Petula as they relive Captain America: The Winter Soldier in all it’s resplendent glory! We break down the tale and examine Cap’s motivations and the reckless abandon we’ve never seen from his character before. It’s a fun ride and the perfect podcast to listen to before the final episode of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Get pumped and enjoy!
