Welcome to another edition of New Comics, where we give our suggestions on what books to pick up when perusing the comic shelves week to week. As always, I am joined by Kris Johnson of Bizarre Comics Entertainment. Read on to find the best of what the comic shop has in store for you this week.

Here we go.

stl023861AVENGERS #1 $4.99 (Marvel) – A new Avengers team for (yet another) new era! Cap! Thor! Vision! Wasp! Herc! Goddamn Spider-Man! From the ashes of Civil War 2 they’ve risen together. And just in time, too, ‘cause that blue-faced butthole Kang has returned to put a hurting on the entirety of existence with KANG WAR ONE! Sound good? Well, it gets even better, ‘cause the creative team is Mark Waid and Mike Del-Freakin’-Mundo! Holy shit! Pick your jaw up off the ground. Don’t worry, I’ll give you a minute. (Kris Johnson)

DEADLY CLASS #23 $3.99 (Image) – So here’s a book that’s gone from GREAT to SUPER GREAT in just a short amount of time. This new story arc with its change in focus has made it must reading as Saya, the last girl you want on your side, sets out to tie up loose ends. But will this lead to her own demise? Normally, I would say no. But after the crazy deaths and twists and turns and deaths that this book has brought us, it’s anybody’s ballgame. (Did I mention all the deaths?) Find out which kill crazy teens bite the big one in yet another killer installment of Deadly Class. (Andrew)

RED BARRY: UNDERCOVER MAN HC VOL 01 $49.99 (IDW) – If you spend enough time as a fan of comics and graphic entertainment, you eventually fall down the rabbit hole of the old and awesome newspaper pulp strips. Names like Dick Tracy and Secret Agent X-9 may immediately spring to mind when speaking of this corner of the four-colour universe, but Red Barry is another that deserves closer consideration. Relaying the adventures of a deep cover operative for the police, Red Barry tended towards more realistic and violent corners of the crime canon than his aforementioned and far more famous contemporary, Dick Tracy. And while these elements helped the strip carve its own niche, they also ultimately contributed to its demise. So don’t be a wise guy, will ya? Dust off a piece of history this Wednesday by scoping out this new hardcover collection from IDW. (Kris Johnson)

stl022911FAITH #5 $3.99 (Valiant) – Check out this special “Election Edition” of Faith. Louise Simonson and Pere Perez provide a backup story where Faith meets Hillary Clinton! Jody Houser breaks in new series artist Meghan Hetrick on the main story! There’s a preview of Harbinger Renegades #1! All for $4? That’s almost too much Rock n Roll for just one comic……almost. (Andrew)

SOUTHERN BASTARDS #15 $3.50 (Image) – That colossal piece of shit, Coach Euless Boss, has suffered the most humiliating defeat of his entire career on he football field and with blood in the water, the sharks begin to circle. Boss’ enemies are gathering and he can feel the noose tightening. Roberta Tubbs aims to be the one responsible for the final squeeze. (Kris Johnson)

MUHAMMAD ALI HC $19.99 (Dark Horse) – Rumble, young man. RUMBLE! The greatest of all time, Muhammad Ali, has lead a pretty interesting and challenging life. Relive it all in this brand new graphic novel. ‘Nuff Said. (Andrew)

stl024006UNWORTHY THOR #1 (OF 5) $3.99 (Marvel) – Jason Aaron and Olivier Coipel team up for the very first time to honour us with the saga of the Unworthy Odinson. Mjolnir has been beyond his reach since the end of Original Sin, when Thor was been deemed wanting by the legendary hammer… but there is yet hope for the disgraced Asgardian. In the far reaches of the universe, whispers speak of another Mjolnir, one that may yet help in the redemption of the fallen thunder god. But as the Unworthy one seeks this new power, so too do a number of the universe’s greatest villains. Who will reach this fabled hammer first? Who will be worthy enough to wield it? Who will be the first to get a knuckle-sandwich from Thor’s sweet new metal arm? Find out by grabbing this comic! (Kris Johnson)

OUTCAST BOOK 01 HC $39.99 (Image) – I know Halloween was yesterday, but this book right here is perfect for those that are not done being scared just yet. If you’ve never read  the comic or just been able to check out the t.v. series on Cinemax, this book a is thrill ride filled with demonic possession, evil spirits and a couple of dudes who are taking them on oldschool styles. A little bit of exorcism mixed with some straight up punches about the face and whatnot. A little violence never hurt anyone…..at least when your talking about fighting demons and such. (Andrew)

MAYDAY #1 (OF 5) $3.99 (Image) – In 1971, two young Soviet spies take on a mission to sunny California to ice a Russian defector and recover the classified info they absconded with during their flight from the Motherland. Everything seems to be going smoothly until the seductive nature of the Best Coast during the dying days of the hippie movement slips past their icy exteriors. Sex and drugs lead to violence and betrayal, but without each other they’ll never make it out of America alive. (Kris Johnson)

stl024007MYOPIA SPECIAL #1 $3.99 (Dynamite) – Mixing steampunk with a spy thriller, Myopia found its roots in a successful Kickstarter campaign that got a lot of attention. Now we have this very special to show for it and nothing will ever be the same for James Chase, a man out to stop the New World Order (4 Life) from violating the Magnetic Energy Agreement. The government is doing some illegal mining of the Earth’s core and they’re using lens technology to hide it from the public. That don’t sit right with James and he aims to do something about it. All I know is that the cover looks akin to a bad-ass pulp novel so I definitely want to check it out based on that alone. Add in some breathtaking interiors telling a lo-fi sci-fi and I’m sold. Check it out this Wednesday at your Local Comic Shop.
